Sanitarium, formerly known as Weet-bix, was renamed Nutri-brex in the Chinese market in 2016. Founded in 1898, Sanitarium is one of Australia's first ready-to-eat breakfast brands and has been awarded five stars in the Australian Government's Health Star Rating System for Food Measurement.
Nutri-brex, a breakfast cereal that sells whole grains and was once featured in Ode to Joy, is made from pure wheat and pressed into chunks for easy consumption and counting, brewing or as a biscuit. After brewing, Nutri-brex cereal will become soft and chewy, which some people may not like.
Whole grain cereals and oatmeal are also whole grains, with high content of dietary fiber and trace elements, such as Nutri-brex cereal with a dietary fiber content of 11g/100g, which helps to supplement dietary fiber. The difference is that wheat has a lower fat content than oats, which is more advantageous as a fat reducing food, but it does not contain β-glucan, has a low resistant starch content, and is not as full as pure oats after eating, although the protein content is not low, it contains less essential amino acids and is not a good source of protein. Overall, Nutri-brex cereal is still a good breakfast cereal, brewed with milk for a nutritious breakfast, or eaten as a cookie when hungry.
Nutri-brex also offers mixed fruit and nut cereals in the Chinese market, which have a richer taste than plain cereals and are also pressed into chunks for easy consumption. There are also crispy cereals, which are baked and puffed to give them a crispy texture, which is more like snack cereals, and cannot be eaten as healthy cereals due to the addition of more sugar and other ingredients.
Nutri-brex cereals are available in 1.4kg large packets and 375g packets, the former is suitable for home use and the latter is suitable for carrying, and because it is pressed into a cake shape, it is easy to crush and must be stored with care.
