Every year from April to July is the peak season for ice cream sales, and the sales volume is basically stagnant after August, but in the central street of Harbin, no matter in the hot summer or the cold winter, there are people queuing up to buy Modern popsicles, and the daily sales volume can reach tens of thousands. Founded in 1906 by Mr. Joseph Kasper, a Jew, Modern is the transliteration of English modren, symbolizing modernity and fashion, and providing handmade sorbets, yogurt and other foods for upper-class celebrities during the Republic of China. At present, the trademark of Modern is held by the state-owned enterprise Modern Group.
 
Popsicles, bread and red sausages are the core of Modern food, especially Modern popsicles have the characteristics of "sweet but not greasy, fragrant in ice". Most ice cream brands add a small amount of jam, additives, etc. to add flavor and taste, typical representatives are Yili, Mengniu, but the handmade popsicles of Modern only use milk and water as raw materials, and use egg white as a thickener, even the pre-packaged popsicle raw materials are relatively simple, the main ingredients are whole milk powder, cream and water, white sugar and glucose syrup to increase sweetness, milk, whole milk powder, cream are all milk fat, compared with vegetable oil made of non-dairy creamer popsicles, the taste and flavor are more mellow and rich. In addition, the flavor composition of Modern popsicles is made of hazelnuts, pistachios and other ingredients ground into a pulp and mixed with them, and the proportion of solids is much higher than that of similar products of other brands, creating a rich taste and traditional flavor of Modern popsicles. However, due to the scale of production and technical technology, the overall quality of Modern can only be at a medium level in the industry, and most consumers rush to buy "Harbin specialties".
 
In terms of taste, Modern is not limited to traditional vanilla, chocolate and other flavors, and gradually introduces durian, mango, matcha, yogurt, rum, hazelnut, pistachio, cookies and other novel flavors.
 
At present, Modern has three major purchase channels, namely retail stores, self-operated stores on e-commerce platforms and offline Modern cold coffee flagship stores, the first two of which are sold by Beijing Modern Food Co., Ltd. Prepackaged Modern popsicles, with a single price ranging from 10 yuan to 20 yuan, which is slightly different from the traditional Modern popsicle formula and slightly inferior in taste. There are only two flagship stores in the country, one of which is the Modern Cold Drink Hall on Harbin Central Street, which sells handmade popsicles at a fair price, about 3-5 yuan a piece, and you can eat the old taste of 100 years ago.
 
In the past, Modern was only sold in Harbin and the surrounding areas, until the establishment of Beijing Modern Food Co., Ltd. in 2013, this century-old brand came out of Harbin. Subsequently, Modern quickly rolled out more than 30 stores in Beijing's well-known business districts and tourist attractions, and the sales volume was quite satisfactory. However, even so, Modern still can't get rid of the label of regional brand, which is rarely heard of in Central China and South China.
