Hankow Concession - Agency Reviews

The Hankou Concession was a concession in Wuhan in the late Qing Dynasty, where six countries, including Britain, Russia, France, Germany, Japan, and Belgium, set up concessions. At the same time, Hankou was the second most important port in China due to its huge trade volume, and was called the "Chicago of the East". As it still retains many characteristic buildings from various countries, this area has become a place for tourists to check in for literature and art, and many newlyweds also choose to take wedding photos here.

With a total area of about 2,800 acres, the Hankou Concession was one of the largest concession areas in those years. The architecture is a major feature of the Hankow Concession and the biggest reason why it is popular with tourists. One of the most striking is the Jianghan Customs Building. The Jianghan Customs Building was originally the Customs Building, which was designed by the British architect Jing Ming in the form popular in the Renaissance. The interior of the building is exquisitely decorated and houses more than 3,000 historical relics, as if the history of Hankou is displayed in front of you.

Deming (Jianghan) Hotel was the most upscale hotel in Hankou at that time, and in the 50s and 60s of the last century, the heads of state who visited Wuhan basically lived here. The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Hankow is also very distinctive, with a blue starry dome and exquisite Gothic decorations. In addition, the People's Paradise, Wuhan Art Museum and other distinctive buildings of the Republic of China are worth visiting. Compared to other foreign construction areas, many of the old houses here have not been fully renovated. Although it is a little dilapidated, it retains the original flavor of the old building.

In addition to the characteristic buildings, Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street is also a must-visit for tourists. Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street is a famous century-old commercial street in Wuhan, with many time-honored shops. This is where the domestic department store, which was opened to boycott Japanese products, and the Hengdali watch store, which specializes in foreign clocks and watches, are all located here. Although it has been renovated and upgraded, most of the brands in the pedestrian street are still mainly low-end. In addition, there are many delicacies in the pedestrian street, and there are all kinds of snacks in the Happy platform. And when night falls, the night market in the pedestrian street can satisfy more taste buds.

The Hankou Concession is now a mature tourist area with complete facilities. Due to the very large scenic spot of Hankou Concession, you can find a roadside restaurant or a stylish café to take a break and look at the old buildings around you, which is very pleasant.
