Pui O Beach
The outlying islands are rich in beaches, and most of them are famous for their clear water. Pui O Beach meets the water quality safety standards, but it is like an oil bottle in the outlying islands area, and the beach E. coli content and sea turbidity sub-indicators are ranked last. The river flows into the east side of the beach, which may be the reason for the deviation of water quality parameters in Pui O.
These minor imperfections have not deterred Pui O Beach from becoming the king of popularity, with more than 400,000 visitors visiting Pui O Beach in 2017, with the highest number of visitors exceeding 8,500 on one day. It is worth mentioning that the average water temperature in Pui O is the highest in Hong Kong among all the beaches.
The beach is about 900 meters long and is fully equipped, so there are few debris such as tree branches and drink bottles because there are people who clean up the garbage. The southwest-facing beach is ideal for watching the sunset, and the management has set up a dedicated camping area for this purpose, with occasional impromptu bands in the evenings. In addition, there is a snack bar and 6 sets of ovens next to the beach. Street dining is also available, with fast food outlets serving burgers, fried fish and more on the beach, and more restaurants on South Lantau Road, 400 metres to the north.
The beach is located on the south side of Lantau Island, but it is easily accessible by ferry from Central to Mui Wo, and then take Line 3M from a nearby bus station and get off at Pui O Station (Pui O Public School).
