KURIGI Shanghai - Merchant Reviews

Japanese restaurants in Shanghai have grown exponentially in recent years, from high-end stores to street shops, Japanese cuisine is ubiquitous, and its price range covers almost every level of consumption. In terms of the development of Japanese cuisine, Shanghai has unique advantages: firstly, it has become a sister city with Nagasaki, Japan, through the green channel of Nagasaki, you can get first-hand ingredients from Japan on the same day, which is the only one in China; Secondly, as a modern metropolis, Shanghai is also quite receptive to foreign culture and cuisine. However, there is still a certain gap between the level of Japanese food in China and the local taste in Japan, and the main reason is the restriction on the import of ingredients. For example, Japanese rice is only allowed to be imported in small quantities; Another example is that Japanese Wagyu beef is prohibited from being imported. So, the sushi you eat at a regular Japanese restaurant is basically domestic rice, and the best Wagyu beef you can eat is imported from Australia.

The ingredients are not enough, and the environment is to make up, so the Japanese restaurants in Shanghai are opening more and more high-end, and the per capita consumption is getting more and more expensive. Opened in early March 2018, KURIGI has the highest environment and the most expensive low consumption, and has undoubtedly become the leader in the current Shanghai and Japanese circles. KUROGI HAILS FROM TOKYO, JAPAN, AND CHEF JUN KUROGI IS KNOWN AS THE "MAN OF WASHOSHI". Tokyo KURIGI was a smash hit because it received a one-Michelin star in Tokyo in 2011 and 2012, but it was not as "the hardest restaurant to make a reservation in Tokyo" as advertised by the media. At present, KURIGI Shanghai is the only overseas branch of KURGI.

Designed by internationally acclaimed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, KURGI's Shanghai restaurant is designed to retain the traditional Japanese log style while adding a streamlined design that complements the bright lighting, making it another work of art by the master. There are four private rooms in the restaurant, and the decoration is made by the famous Japanese florist Hana Chiyo.

In order to ensure the freshness of the ingredients and to provide diners with a taste of Japanese service, reservations are required for dining at KURIGI Shanghai. KURIGI Shanghai takes kappo as the main form, with a single charge starting from 3,500 yuan, and there is no à la carte menu, and the dishes are all prepared by the chef according to the ingredients of the day. The head chef of KURIGI Shanghai, Masanobu Mizu, is a chef from the head office of the Tokyo main store, Jun Kuroki, who has a wealth of experience in Japanese cooking, and the dishes at the Shanghai store were designed by him and Jun Kuroki. In order to satisfy the preferences of Chinese diners, the menu has inevitably incorporated modified elements, such as local crab, caviar, French foie gras, black truffle, etc., all of which are more appealing to local high-spending diners. In addition, Delamotte Champagne and 6 table wines are included in the package, which are accompanied by a variety of dishes and different wines, which also allows diners to enjoy a more complete dining experience. If you don't feel like you're going to have enough of the drinks in the set menu, there is also a bar area with a wide variety of high-end alcoholic beverages and a professional Japanese bartender stationed at the restaurant, so it's not a problem to get a good drink.

KURIGI Shanghai is located in the Bellagio Suning on the North Bund, a sister hotel of the Bellagio Hotel Las Vegas, USA, which opened in early 2018 in a baroque building, with a beige façade that blends with the historic buildings of the Bund to become a new landmark on the North Bund. KUROGI is in keeping with the hotel's luxury, so diners who visit the restaurant are advised to pay a little attention to what they attire.
