Lockwood is almost a baby compared to the century-old British umbrella manufacturer, founded in 2014 by two new generations of Edward Gucewicz and Moses Manley, who worked with James Smith &Son. Lockwood uses traditional techniques to create its wings, with signature contrasting colours adding a slightly playful artistic touch.
 
Each piece of Lockwood is handcrafted by two artisans in Lockwood's workshop in North London, and it takes about a day to complete an umbrella, from assembling the frame all the way to hand-sewing the umbrella cloth. Lockwood's umbrella uses a "Grade A" steel skeleton, the wood is mostly sourced from sustainable woodlands in Western Europe, the jumping spring parts are hand-turned from brass, key areas such as the umbrella bones are hand-stitched with reinforcements, and the fastening buttons are made of Asian buffalo horns.

Ready-made solid umbrellas are more cost-effective than custom-made umbrellas, costing around £280 per handle, but Lockwood generally has few finished umbrella styles on the shelves, and the choice is narrow. Whether it's a custom or finished wing, Lockwood sews a striking white reinforced fabric at the seams of the ribs inside the surface, which is also a signature feature of Lockwood.
 
In addition, the Lockwood is available in a slim tube and folding umbrella with a classic 8mm paragon frame and a handle made of Malacca vine, Italian leather and bamboo. The price is around £100. Lockwood does not have a physical store, it is only sold online on the official website, and both custom and solid umbrellas are free of international shipping.
