Rioja, Spain, is one of the most famous wine regions in the world and the first wine region in Spain to be granted the status of a legal appellation. Rioja's traditional wines usually have considerable ageing potential, and the quality of the wines will become more refined over time, and most of them can be easily aged for more than 30 years. Lin Yusen, a famous Chinese wine writer, once said that if he could only visit one winery in Rioja, Lopez Repia would be his only choice.
Founded in 1877, Lopez Redia is Rioja's most prestigious wine estate and is known as a textbook wine estate. Unlike Lopezredia, where most wineries choose to buy grapes from dozens of growers, Lopezredia maintains the family's ancient winemaking tradition of using only its own grapes in order to ensure a consistent quality of the wines. In addition, Lopez Raidia is the only winery in Spain that makes oak barrels entirely by hand.
Lopezredia owns a total of four vineyards: Viña Tondonia, Viña Cubillo, Viña Bosconia and Viña Zaconia. The Don vineyard is the oldest vineyard and the largest of the estates, with the traditional Spanish vineyards of Tonillo, Canazza and Mazzulo, mostly used to make wines of the highest quality.
Lopez Raidia is a leader in the dry white wine sector, where rosé is not its main focus, producing only one Gran Reserva (Grand Cru Vintage, Spain's highest wine) rosé – Viña Tondonia Rosé Gran Reserva. This rosé is a blend of three Spanish grapes, Canazza, Don Puniro and Viona, and has the characteristics of Rioja wine, which can be drunk now or stored for several years.
