Recommended wine: Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Montavi, the most important winery in the history of American wine, has always played a leading role in the American wine industry. In 1966, Robert Montafe founded the eponymous winery, the first major winery to settle in Napa Valley after Prohibition in 1933.
Robert Mondafey has been called the father of American wine, and rightly so, when American wine came to the fore at the 1976 Paris Trial, outpacing many Old World wines and changing European perceptions. Although the wines of Château del Montavi were not included in this tasting, the owners of Château de Antavi, which won the first place in the red wine group, and Château Monterena, the champion of the white wine group, have studied under the winery of Montavi and learned the art of winemaking at Château Montavi.
In addition to cultivating the first batch of winemaking talents for the United States, Mondavi has also introduced advanced technologies such as high-density planting, temperature-controlled fermentation, stainless steel barrels, and French oak barrel aging to the United States. In addition, Mondavi was the first to label the grape variety on the wine label, making it the standard for New World wines. Under his influence, California's Napa Valley has transformed from an untouched village into one of the world's most sought-after wine regions and a popular winery destination.
It should be noted that today's Château de Montavi has little to do with Mondavi. In the 80s, Château Montavi went public, but due to poor performance, the Montavi family was removed from the board of directors, and in 2004 Château Mondavi was acquired by the wine giant Constellation Group, and Robert Montavi himself died in 2008.
Château Montalfe has two vineyards with a total area of 440 hectares, the most well-known of which is the To Kalon vineyard, which is recognized as one of the top Cabernet Sauvignon vines, which has been cultivated since the 70s of the 19th century and has the oldest vines in the whole Napa Valley. Of the 252 hectares of vineyards, Château Mondavi occupies 176 hectares, while Opus 1 owns 40 hectares.
Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, the finest wine of Château Montavi, is in the same vein as the No. 1 piece, the premium Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from To kalon are fermented and matured in French oak barrels for 18-20 months, with a powerful body with intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and cedar, plenty of acidity and tannins to fill the palate. The first collector's Cabernet Sauvignon was launched in 1971 and quickly became a top choice. In the Chinese market, a bottle of Montafe Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon costs about 1,400 yuan.
In order to cover the daily needs, in 1979, Mondavi developed a low-end product series, Woodbridge series and private selection series, which are available at Mondavi's Tmall flagship store, and can be purchased for only one or two hundred yuan.
