In the world-famous 1855 Médoc classification, it is none other than Château Lafite that ranks first in the Premier Estate. As can be seen from the name of the winery, Château Lafite and Château Mouton both belong to the Rothschild family, and the wine label has "five arrows", but in fact, the two belong to different branch groups, the former is the Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite (DBR Lafite), and the latter is the Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. (BPDR).
Château Lafite has the most extensive vineyard of any Médoc Premier Cru with 112 hectares spread over three areas: the hills surrounding the castle, the Carruades plateau, and St. Mouton's neighbourhood. Estephe。 Located in the northernmost part of the Pauillac appellation, the vineyard is dominated by stony, gravel and covered with a thick layer of gravel, which is the main reason for the elegance and minerality of Lafite.
Château Lafite has two wines: Château de Rothschild Lafite (Grand Lafite) and Treasure of Lafite (Lafite). Elegance and refinement are the key words of Grand Lafite, which is extremely delicate, with a slightly intense woody aroma from oak barrels, as well as notes of violet and cedar. Cabernet Sauvignon is the majority of the grapes used to make Grand Lafite, 5-20% Merlot, aged for 18-20 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
The Petit Lafite is made from high-quality grapes from the Carruades plateau, and the Merlot grapes in the Petit Lafite are more proportional than the Grande Lafite, so the tannins are lighter, the style is refined, and it can be drunk at a young age without having to mature for a long time, but it also has the potential to age for about 10 years.
Because of the rendering of film and television works, in China, Lafite once became synonymous with luxury life, even for people who do not drink red wine, most of them have heard of it. At the official and business banquets at that time, Lafite and Moutai became the standard. The frenzy of extravagant consumption has not only led directly to the rapid inflation of prices, but has also contributed to the boom in counterfeit wine – in late 2012, the Wenzhou police seized nearly 10,000 bottles of counterfeit Lafite red wine.
With the rational return of the market, the price of Lafite's wine has become much more reasonable, on the Jingdong platform, depending on the year, the price of Lafite is roughly 4,800-10,000 yuan, and the price of Lafite is about 3,000 yuan. It should be noted that in order to meet the needs of different consumer groups, the Lafite Rothschild Group has also acquired many small wineries, producing low-end red wines with the Rothschild family's "five arrows" logo, which often appear in ordinary supermarkets, and most of them are priced within 500 yuan.
