In the 1855 Médoc classification, Château Mouton Rothschild (hereinafter referred to as Château Mouton) did not make the first choice and ranked first in the list of second estates; In 1973, Château Mouton was upgraded to a Premier Estate, which it has maintained to this day. It is worth noting that Château Mouton is the only Château to be promoted to a Premier Cru since the Médoc classification was established in 1855.
Château Mouton is located in the village of Pauillac in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, on a hillside called "Mouton Heights". With 90 hectares of vineyards, the estate is a vast plot of land with very poor soil conditions made up of pebbles and gravel, which provides excellent conditions for grape growing. The vineyards of Château Mouton are planted with Bordeaux classics: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Vertoux, with an average age of 44 years.
Every year, Château Mouton's en primeur wine is on the market, which is of great concern to drinkers and wine lovers, not only because of the wine itself, but also because of its highly collectible wine label - under the initiative of Baron Philippe, Mouton Mouton has invited fashionable artists to paint the label for the products of the year every year since 1945, and Dalí, Picasso, Andy Warhol and other masters have written for it. The artistic label undoubtedly adds to the collectible value of the wine, so many people buy Mouton Castle and do not drink it, but only collect it.
It is a tradition for most of the Bordeaux giants to use the grapes of the year to make their second wines, and Château Mouton is no exception, and the estate currently has two wines: Château Mouton and Mouton Petit Red. Château Mouton is harvested in handmade baskets, destemmed and screened, and then the must is transferred to oak barrels for fermentation, however, only grapes from the best plots and the oldest vines have a chance to be used to make the Grand Cru, while the younger grapes are given priority for the production of Petit Mouton.
Authentic Mouton, which accounts for more than half of Château Mouton's production, is very popular with drinkers, with almost all vintages scoring above 90 points on Wine Searcher. The first vintage of Mouton was 1993, and on the Tmall platform, the price of Mouton Fort wine was generally more than 5,000 yuan. The price of Mouton sub-brand wine is usually 2,500-3,000 yuan.
