Recommended wine: Rippon dry red wine
Parker's perfect years: 1982, 2009, 2010
Ripon, another of the most prestigious châteaux on the right bank of Bordeaux, is just a stone's throw from Patus. Founded in 1979 in the Pomerol appellation, Château Rippon is one of the smallest and shortest vineyards in the region. Rippon's rise to fame is very similar to that of the California Whistling Eagle, with a Parker perfect score for its second vintage (1982), and in an instant, Rippon's attention soared, and Pomerol upstart was born.
In his short business career, he has been compared to Patus countless times by drinkers and wine aficionados, in large part because of the similarities between the two in many ways: Merlot with a large proportion of grapes, and a small amount of Cabernet Franc; All adopt the intensive cultivation mode of hand-picking and brewing; There are no castles, and for a long time, there was only one cement room for winemaking and wine storage.
The vineyards in Rippon are quite limited, but only 2.7 hectares, and the winery is cautious about expansion, so it produces only 600-700 cases per year, which is 1/6 of the production of Patus. Under such a tight supply and demand relationship, the average international pre-tax price of Lipon reached 3,153 US dollars, slightly higher than that of Patus, which is a fragrant bait in the eyes of wine investors and collectors, and is regarded as one of the most stable investment red wines.
Due to its size, Rippon produces only one red wine, which Parker considers to be the top of the Pomerol region and does not hesitate to give it high marks for each vintage. Made from 100% Merlot grapes, the red wine of Rippon is rich and juicy with berries such as plums and cherries, mixed with delicate aromas of coconut, truffle and coffee, and has an impressive smooth texture. However, the level of the Rippon is not stable, and in some overheated and overly dry vintages, the condition of the Rippon wines may not be as ideal.
