Many of the many high-end seafood restaurants in Shanghai use seafood ingredients from Canada, but Fresh Maple is the only seafood restaurant with a Canadian theme. It was opened on Fuxing Middle Road, which was once the main road of the French Concession, and its good style made it a frequent place for a group of petty bourgeois youth.
Fresh Maple's dining environment is exotic, with a wood-paneled façade that makes it stand out from the crowd on the roadside. The area of the restaurant is not large, but the use of glass windows and mirrors greatly reduces the sense of oppression. Twine-rope chandeliers, nautical charts and oars give diners the illusion of going back to medieval Europe. The dim lighting also sets off the higher style.
As a small restaurant, Fresh Maple's abundance of seafood isn't its forte, but its quality dishes are its forte. Canadian lobster is a recommended dish that uses Boston lobster as the main ingredient and is prepared in two ways, orange and butter shrimp sauce (gratin) and garlic, which is more popular in comparison. The lobster is cut in the middle from head to tail, and the shrimp head is yellow and plump. The meat is firm and thick, with some sweetness in the mouth. The store also provides special tools for eating shrimp to make the whole eating process simple and fast.
In addition to the above-mentioned dishes, Fresh Maple also offers French oysters, New Zealand king salmon, cod, Dungeness crab, mussels and more, with a variety of cooking options to suit the basic needs of seafood lovers.
Fresh Maple's service is decent, and the waiters have just the right pace of serving, so there will be no waiting for dishes or too many dishes on the table.
