Founded in 2003, Guangzhou Southern International School (GNIS) is an accredited IB international school approved by the Ministry of Education and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. GNIS is also the first teaching institution in Guangzhou to be authorized by the International Examinations Board of Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, which can provide International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and High School Certificate (AS) examinations for school-age students, and has been certified by the London Edexcel Examination Board.

The school is located next to Longdong Forest Park in Tianhe District, covering an area of more than 50,000 square meters, with nearly 200 students, 82 classrooms, equipped with modern teaching equipment, multimedia library, global exploration room, international standard physics, biology and chemistry laboratories and other facilities. In addition, the school has a number of indoor and outdoor standard basketball courts and football fields, providing a better place for extracurricular activities.

In terms of teachers, GNIS has nearly 100 outstanding faculty members, including 41 full-time foreign teachers from more than 10 countries around the world, all of whom have a bachelor's degree or above and hold a teaching qualification certificate, 48.7% of the teachers have a master's degree, and 7.7% have a doctorate, and nearly 20 IB qualified teachers, including 2 IB senior tutors, all of whom have rich experience in teaching and training in international schools.

GNIS has three divisions: Kindergarten, Primary, and Secondary, which focus on international education programs and international exchanges, and are taught in English. The school provides four coherent systematic curriculum systems: PYP, MYP, IGCSE, and IBDP. At the kindergarten and primary level, GNIS has teaching assistants, so students with a poor foundation in English do not have to worry about not being able to keep up with the curriculum. At the same time, after school at 4:10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the school offers a number of activities, including sports, creative activities and academic activities, and optional activities on Mondays and Wednesday afternoons, although it is important to note that some activities may be charged. Twice a year, GNIS also provides semester reports that use different tools to assess students' academic performance and develop a number of assessment guidelines to encourage and guide students.

GNIS implements a day school system and provides optional school bus services for all students, with 15 student shuttle buses running through Tianhe, Baiyun, Liwan, Yuexiu, Haizhu and other areas. Each bus is equipped with an English and Chinese chauffeur and picks up from 7am to 8am and leaves at 3.30pm and 4.30pm. The school also has a full-service cafeteria, offering Western and Asian cuisines. The cuisine is diverse and hygienic, including vegetarian and fruity cuisines. For students who bring their own meals, the school also provides a microwave oven for students to heat up.

In recent years, GNIS has achieved remarkable educational results, and many students have been admitted to the Juilliard School in the United States, which is known as the "Harvard of music" in the world, the California Institute of the Arts, which is known as the top design school in the United States, and the University of Toronto, the University of Reading, the University of Nottingham International Business School and other world-famous universities. In addition, in the 2015 Cambridge International Examinations, 13 students passed the assessment in 74 subjects and achieved excellent results, more than 70% of the papers achieved grade C and above, and some students achieved the highest score in Arabic in the 2011 Asian Foreign Chinese Examination.
