Guangzhou Canadian International School, abbreviated as CIS. CIS offers courses from kindergarten to high school, preschool to junior high school in Panyu Cambridgeshire Garden, and high school campus in Tianhe Wushan Road. In 2018, CIS will settle in Jingu, which covers an area of 29,200 square meters, can accommodate more than 1,000 students, and has complete supporting facilities such as student dormitories, equipped with independent laboratories, theaters, large performance halls and other first-class teaching and activity venues, and will become one of the most advanced campuses in Guangzhou.
CIS has first-class teachers, all of whom hold internationally valid certifications, with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, and dedicated English and Mandarin teachers. In terms of teaching, CIS provides students with iPads and laptops and other equipment, and like most international schools, it implements small class sizes, with no more than 20 students per class, and different special courses according to different grades. CIS is based on the curriculum of Alberta, Canada, and is the first Alberta International School to complete accreditation in China. The Alberta Curriculum System is considered one of the highest quality education systems in the world, with students under the Alberta Curriculum ranked in the top 10% of international exams in terms of academics and problem-solving.
From preschool to primary school, CIS focuses on subjects such as English, mathematics, music, art, Chinese, science and physical education, as well as other language courses for students of different native languages, and extracurricular courses include calligraphy, band, cooking, golf and other courses. As students move on to grades 4-6, the school will add life skills learning courses, such as organizing and participating in school activities, leading school activities, and serving as reading partners for younger students, to develop students' exploration and leadership skills.
In the middle school, in addition to core subjects such as mathematics, science and sociology, students will have the opportunity to attend classes in advanced technology, robotics or multimedia classrooms with 3D graphics printers, as well as academic support from teachers, learning advisors and administration, as well as opportunities to participate in drama performances, music, sports and technical creation. At the high school level, the school provides a curriculum system of universities or professional colleges around the world, and after completing the credits, students can obtain a high school diploma recognized by the Alberta Ministry of Education, and receive one-on-one guidance and evaluation on academic and career choices.
The campus life of CIS has three distinctive features: first, language learning, the school provides the opportunity to learn multiple languages as a choice of courses, including Italian, English, French, Chinese, Korean, etc.; The second is technology integration, students in grades 4-12 can bring their own devices (mobile phones, iPads, laptops, cameras, voice recorders, etc.) to the classroom for use, which is BYOD or Bring your own device proposed by the international education community for a long time, and its purpose is to allow students to make full use of their own devices and promote personalized learning; The third is community activities, where students participate in charity performances and community activities through group cooperative learning, so as to realize the sense of responsibility of global citizenship and cultivate correct values. In addition to classroom learning, the school also organizes a variety of extracurricular activities every year to provide a broad stage for the development of different students, including educational excursions and other activities.
As of 2017, CIS has students from about 40 countries, but does not admit Chinese students, and each student has a Canadian student registration number to prepare for admission to international institutions of higher learning. In terms of admissions evaluation, the school attaches great importance to the all-round development of students, and students with high academic standards are very popular, and students with certain sports talents and artistic attainments are also loved by the school. CIS also has outstanding teaching performance, especially in English, science and mathematics, and has scored far above the world average in various examinations, and many students have been admitted to famous universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore and Australia after graduation.
