The Guangzhou Japanese School was established in 1995 to provide the same education to Japanese children living in Guangzhou. The school mainly recruits children who are Japanese, 6 years old or older, have Japanese language skills, and live with their guardians in the vicinity of Guangzhou. Since its establishment, the Japanese School has been recognized by the Ministry of Education of Japan, the Chinese Education Commission and the Guangzhou Department of Education, and is operated by the Guangzhou Japanese School Council.

The Guangzhou Japanese School is a low-key one, surrounded on three sides by a forest on three sides on Fengxin Road, Science City, Tianhe District, and there are no other buildings on this side of the road, and buses do not pass through here, so if you don't notice the name of the Guangzhou Japanese School at the entrance, few people will associate it with the school. The campus is well greened and well-equipped, with a library, laboratories, art classrooms, auditorium, lecture hall, gymnasium and football field, which can meet the needs of students for various learning and activities. In addition, not far from the school is Sony South China, where many children of Sony employees study.

At present, Guangzhou Japanese School only has an elementary and junior high school section, and uses the same teaching materials as in Japan, but also adds some special teaching materials such as Chinese. The school's curriculum includes Japanese, English, mathematics, science, music and art, and has one Chinese class per week, with 20 to 30 students per class in primary school and more than 30 students in junior high school. As of 2013, there were 337 elementary school students, 84 junior high school students, and 40 faculty members.

In addition to daily classes, the school will hold winter and summer camps every winter and summer vacation to enrich students' school life. At the same time, in order to let students know more about China, Guangzhou Japanese School often holds various exchange meetings with primary schools in China, such as the Sino-Japanese cultural exchange activities with Dongfeng East Road Primary School, to explore the Chinese and Japanese tea culture and food characteristics. It is worth mentioning that although the school is engaged in synchronous education with the Japanese school, the opening time is different from that of the Japanese school, which generally starts in the spring in April when the cherry blossoms are dancing, while the Guangzhou Japanese School "follows the local customs" and starts at the same time as the Chinese school.

The Japanese School in Guangzhou has a day school system, there is a school bus every day, the school does not have a kitchen, and lunch is not provided, so most students bring lunch boxes to school or ask Japanese restaurants in the city to deliver food. In addition, it should be noted that elementary and junior high schools in Japan are free of charge, and Guangzhou Japanese School is also a non-profit school, but due to the high cost of running overseas, tuition fees are still charged, but the fees are much lower than most international schools, but the fees are similar to those of ordinary schools in terms of travel, activities, and school buses.
