The school was established in 1997 to provide education for children of foreigners living in South China from the age of 2 to the end of high school. The French International School of Guangzhou, abbreviated as EFIC (Ecole Française Internationale de Canton), has been recognized by the French Ministry of Education since 1999 and is affiliated to the overseas French education organization, and is the only non-profit French school in South China.

EFIC is located in Jinshazhou, Baiyun District, which is relatively secluded and has a small campus area. The school provides students with a variety of relatively complete facilities, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, plastic running tracks, gymnasiums and first-class canteens. At the same time, every class at EFIC is equipped with an air purifier, creating a good learning environment for students.

In terms of teachers, most of EFIC's teachers are French, and they are also national civil servants certified and assigned by the French Ministry of Education, and are regulated by the French Ministry of Education. The school follows the French Curriculum and the French Pedagogy, and each teacher is regularly inspected and trained to ensure that students can continue their studies in French schools around the world and receive a French national education. EFIC also has teachers from countries outside of France who teach other languages. In addition, all teachers of the school are qualified to teach and graduated with a degree in teacher education.

In terms of curriculum, EFIC focuses on learning to master language, contact with writing, group life and body movements in the kindergarten stage, so as to develop children's imagination and creativity. In addition, the kindergarten is equipped with a foreign teacher, a teaching assistant and an aunt, and students learn Cambridge English courses from an early age. At the primary level, EFIC offers courses such as foreign language, mathematics, world exploration, art history, and science and technology, which cultivate students' independent thinking and observational skills.

From the sixth grade, students begin to be exposed to the secondary school curriculum while consolidating their knowledge in primary school, expand the scope and depth of learning through optional courses such as Chinese and Latin in junior high school, and learn a fourth foreign language in the third year of junior high school. It is worth mentioning that there are four years of junior high school in France, and EFIC students need to find an internship on their own in the fourth year of junior high school, and the internship lasts for one week. Towards the end of junior high school, students are required to take the French Baccalaureate exam. In high school, students begin to prepare for the French college entrance examination from the second year of high school.

As a school accredited by the French Ministry of Education, EFIC adopts a syllabus that is mainly French, in sync with public schools in France. However, unlike schools in France, EFIC students receive an orthodox French education while learning about the local culture of China, and at the same time, the school also arranges additional French as a foreign language courses for non-French native speakers. In terms of extracurricular activities, every Wednesday afternoon is EFIC's activity class, snack workshops, sports clubs, crafts and other activities for students to choose from, the school integrates French, English and Chinese into these activities, but the type of activities is not fixed, EFIC will provide a variety of activities according to the requirements of students and parents.

EFIC adopts a day school system, the school arranges a school bus pick-up, the school bus has 4 routes, covering Zhujiang New Town, Binjiang Road, Huijing New Town and Panyu, each school bus has 1~2 aunts with the bus, and the school bus is also installed with GPS, parents can view the school bus walking route in real time through the mobile APP. In terms of catering, EFIC cooperates with Guangzhou Nanlian Aviation Catering Co., Ltd., and food safety and hygiene are more guaranteed, but the catering is similar to that of in-flight meals.

As of 2017, EFIC has more than 140 students from 15 countries, 80% of whom are French, and the rest are Canadian, American, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwanese. In terms of class schedule, like Chinese schools, the school year starts at 8:30 a.m. every Monday to Friday from the beginning of September to the end of June of the following year. After graduation, about 60% of EFIC students go to university in France, while others go on to study in countries such as the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
