In 2015, the London International School (ISL) opened its first school in China, ISL is one of the world's earliest and most authoritative IB international schools, with 40 years of experience, and one of its principals is the chairman of the Global IB Principals' Council. In June 2017, ISA International School Guangzhou (ISA) officially passed the International Baccalaureate Organization's accreditation and was authorized by the PYP program, making it one of the fastest international schools in China to obtain IB accreditation. At the same time, it is understood that in 2018 and 2019, ISA will successively obtain MYP and DP authorization certification.
ISA is located in Guangzhou's most distinctive red brick factory art and creative park, which can be said to be the only high-end international school in Guangzhou's CBD that supports foreigners. The campus has a library, an art room, a science laboratory, a multilingual classroom and a variety of indoor and outdoor courts, all teaching equipment is imported from abroad, and each classroom is equipped with electronic whiteboards and iPads and other advanced facilities. In 2020, the school will open the Guangzhou Science City campus, covering an area of 37,320 square meters, which will be able to provide 1,800 degrees and more luxurious supporting facilities.
In terms of teachers, the configuration of ISA is the envy of many peers. Its foreign teachers come from the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States and other countries, and the Chinese teachers come from provincial schools in China, all of whom have rich teaching experience. ISA's Principal, Ms. Elaine Whelen, was previously the Principal of the International School of London, the International School of Kampala and the International School of Guangzhou Yudelai. In addition, the school brings together education experts from the UK, Singapore, Australia and China, and has established an ISA Advisory Board. Christopher Stuart-Clark, a former teacher at Eton College and principal of the International School of Chinese in Hong Kong, facilitated ISA's collaboration with the EtonX Modern Leadership Program.
The EtonX Modern Leadership Programme is the only online school at Eton College. Currently, it is an exclusive course for ISA students in grades 9 and 10. In the assessment of this course, students with excellent grades will not only receive a certificate of excellence issued by EtonX, but also have the opportunity to enter the EtonX Silver Elite Program for study, and the success rate of applying for world-famous universities will be greatly improved.
ISA implements small class teaching, takes the IB curriculum as the core and framework, integrates the British National Curriculum, and cooperates with many schools in the UK, and has rich international education resources. ISA also strives to help students integrate into Chinese society, and Chinese teaching materials are selected from authoritative textbooks such as the domestic people's education version and the Sujiao version, and up to 10 hours of Chinese lessons are set up per week. For students from different countries, the school also offers native language courses such as French, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, etc., and students are encouraged to take multiple languages. In addition, ISA pays attention to the individual needs of students, providing students with more than 20 high-quality supplementary courses from kindergarten onwards, including music appreciation, karate, ballet, football, debate, etc., and from the primary school level onwards, they need to choose a musical instrument to further their education, and make art courses a daily routine. It is worth mentioning that many international schools end at 15:30 in the afternoon and ISA at 16:45.
ISA also encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities and competitions, such as math Olympiads, chess tournaments, and international fairs. ISA students have also achieved good results in various competitions, such as defeating Dulwich College Beijing in the debate competition; Won the runner-up of the "Canton Cup" football match; Won a good result in the Singapore Mathematics Olympiad, etc. ISA currently operates a day school and cooperates with off-campus companies in catering to provide a variety of Chinese and Western meals and snacks.
