BMW BMW Motorrad How about foreign brand introduction

Recommended models: R 1200 GS, F 800 GS, G 310 GS

BMW Motorrad is now a subsidiary of the BMW Automotive Group, but in fact BMW cars appeared 6 years later than motorcycles. BMW built its first motorcycle in 1923, called the R32. The horizontally opposed twin-cylinder plus shaft drive, commonly known as the "Boxer" engine, is the high-end Adventure R 1200 GS that is still used today. The R32 was a huge success, and the second motorcycle, the R37, extended the success to win all 500cc classes in Germany from 1924 to 1929. In the ensuing World War II, BMW also received a large number of military orders from the German army to produce a large number of motorcycles for the Blitzkrieg. The most famous are the R75 and R71, the R75 was copied by the Soviet Union because of its multi-function and can be matched with mortars and machine guns, and the R71 is famous because of its appearance that was imitated as the Yangtze River 750.

After World War II, many factories in Germany were demolished, and BMW was no exception, and the motorcycle division can be said to have started from scratch again. BMW's revival mainly relied on cars, and motorcycles officially became a diffusion. Now BMW motorcycles have covered station wagons, expedition cars, sports cars, scooters, and the model is divided into three parts, the initials represent the engine type, G-single-cylinder, F-straight two, C-scooter straight two, R-opposed twin cylinders, S-straight four, K-straight six, the number in the middle represents the displacement, and the last letter represents the car series, GS is an expedition car, with T is a station wagon, R is a street car, RR and RS are sports cars.

BMW has a wide range of models, but the most famous and best-selling is their expedition car, which ends in GS (Gelande/Strasse). BMW has won the Dakar Rally six times, four of them in the 80s. At that time, BMW built the R 80 GS, put the "boxer engine" on the off-road vehicle, and also used the single wishbone design for the first time, winning four Dakar Rally championships between 1981 and 1985. Subsequently, in 1988, BMW became the first manufacturer to put the ABS system on motorcycles, and it is also the manufacturer that now all models are equipped with ABS systems as standard.

After the 2013 facelift, the R 1200 GS (Waterbird) has firmly established itself in the expedition car market, with the two best-selling models of 2015 coming from the GS, the R 1200 GS (23,681 units), followed by the R 1200 GS Adventure (18,011 units). For 2017, the R 1200 GS split out the Rallye, which is more off-road, and the Exclusive, which is more cruising. The Rallye has longer suspension travel, stiffer springs, and off-road tires, while the Exclusive is more comfort-oriented. The 2017 model has no noticeable changes in power and appearance, with a focus on improving the electronics and the addition of professional driving modes, including Dynamic/Dynamic Pro and Enduro/Enduro Pro. DTC Tracking System and ABS Pro have introduced a tilt angle sensing function, so the new Waterbird also has a Cornering ABS function, in addition to Hill Start Control. There are many features of the new model that are optional, and in order to facilitate the owner, BMW has prepared three packages, namely Dynamik, Komfort and Touring, which can be selected according to the owner's needs.

However, considering that BMW's return to the Chinese market was only in 2013, and the models that entered the Chinese market did not go through the full life cycle, they had reservations about reliability, and in the reliability survey of Consumer Reports in the United States, the failure rate of BMW motorcycles was as high as 40%, ranking at the bottom of the test.
