Founded in 1999, Orchard has always been committed to bringing coffee houses into homes and offices, and has teamed up with the Swiss grinder brand SOLIS to launch fully automatic coffee machines for home use, traditional semi-automatic coffee machines and grinders. In the early days, the most common household grinder on the market was the blade type, which could indeed break the coffee beans, but the blade was easy to heat up in the grinding, which accelerated the loss of coffee flavor, and the number of grinding sections could not be selected, and the difference in the size and shape of the coffee powder was large, which greatly affected the extraction of coffee flavor. Orchard has introduced grinders that can adjust the grind level, and the grinding performance is much more uniform than that of traditional grinders. To this day, Orchard is one of the most influential brands of home grinders.
Orchard is mainly engaged in mid-to-high-end household grinders and semi-commercial grinders, all of which are taper knives and flat knives for commercial use. Among them, the Encore and Sette are home entry-level grinders for single origin coffee and espresso respectively, and the Encore is Orchard's best-selling home coffee grinder, which was named the best grinder by Wirecutter, and is a home electric coffee grinder that is most suitable for entry-level players. Encore uses a 40mm steel taper knife that grinds coffee beans by rolling the coffee beans, and the coffee ground obtained by this cutter head is granular and has good grinding uniformity, especially for medium to fine powders used for hand pouring. The Encore is easy to operate, priced at around 800 RMB, easy to maintain, and can be used to grind single-origin coffee, as well as Italian style, which can meet the needs of ordinary entry-level coffee lovers.
The difference between the price difference between the Virtuoso and the Encore is about $100, the Virtuoso is an upgraded version of the Encore, which grinds about twice as fast as the Encore, has a timer, and has a stronger base than the Encore, which is more conducive to preventing the grinding vibration from inaccurate sharpening, and can achieve finer grinding.
Launched in 2016, the Sette series is a new star in home grinders. The Sette series uses an externally rotated taper knife (BG burr), which has a special straight fall design, which can effectively reduce the powder residue rate; With a low-speed grind, the coffee flavor will be brighter. The Sette 30AP is the base of the range, which stands for Italian-optimized flat knife and is suitable as an entry-level home Italian grinder. The 2016 SCAA award-winning Sette 270 adds a timed grinding function, a larger number of grinding stages, and a more precise grinding scale to cover the grind required for everyday use, with the exception of Turkish Extra-Fine Powder. The Sette 270WI is an enhanced version of the 270 that embeds an Acaia scale with weighing and Bluetooth data transmission to control the required amount by timing and dosing. The 270WI is positioned as a semi-commercial grinder, and the weight of grinding coffee beans cannot exceed 1kg per day, otherwise the service life of the grinder will be affected.
The Vario is more compatible with FORTE, with a bias towards Italian and single product grinding, respectively, and is suitable for commercial use. The FORTE series, Orchard's most expensive series, won the SCAA Best New Product Award for 2013. As a commercial grinder, the FORTE series is divided into 45mm flat knives with the FORTE BG and FORTE AP. Both the AP and BG have timed dosing functions and are the most compatible of all Orchard ranges, both of which can be used for both Italian and non-Italian grinding. The FORTE AP uses a ceramic sharpening knife, which is more suitable for grinding Italian thicknesses. FORTE BG uses alloy grinding material, BG has a lower powder rate than AP, which is more suitable for grinding hand pour-over, and can be used as a commercial coffee grinder, but the grinding of beans per day cannot exceed 2kg.
Orchard's Vario collection was developed by Mahlkönig and is more Italian-style than the FORTE, but it also works well with the FORTE with an electronic control panel. Vario is dosed by timing, Vario-W is dosed by fixed weight, and the more practical Vario-W will be around $100 more expensive. Both models are very easy to adjust the grinding scale, both use a 54m ceramic flat knife, the grinding efficiency and grinding performance are excellent, and it is a home grinder with strong compatibility.
