History
Around 1958, Guangzhou Ice Factory, the predecessor of Guangzhou People's Food Factory, began to use the advantages of technology and equipment to produce ice cream, which was the beginning of the industrial production of ice cream by large machines in the history of Guangzhou. In the first few years, ice cream produced by ice factories with the name of the manufacturer and no brand.
Wuyang Ice Cream, because of its age, there are at least two theories about its advent time: according to the records of "Guangzhou City Chronicles", it is speculated that the establishment of Wuyang Ice Cream should not be earlier than 1969; However, the old employees of the original Guangzhou People's Food Factory firmly believe that Wuyang ice cream existed before the Cultural Revolution, and the early 60s of the 20th century should be the time when Wuyang ice cream came out. At that time, due to the high cost of private ice room ice cream, the price at that time was from a few dimes to a piece of five, while the retail unit price of Wuyang ice cream cones was three and four cents, and the price was more competitive. At that time, the factory's technicians and workers chose egg rolls to carry the ice cream, all of which were made by hand.
In the early 60s, the market demand for Wuyang ice cream was increasing day by day, and the employees of the food factory solved the problem of shortage of cold sources by themselves in the case of lack of funds, and successively developed and produced 4 freezers with a production capacity of 200,000 kcal.
During the Cultural Revolution, Wuyang Ice Cream was ordered to change its name because the "Wuyang" brand was considered by the government to have a "feudal consciousness", and it was only restored after the Cultural Revolution.
In February 1986, Guangzhou People's Food Factory signed a joint venture contract with Guangdong International Food Co., Ltd. and Hong Kong Milk (Guangzhou Bingqi) Co., Ltd. (now Dairy International) to prepare for the establishment of Guangzhou Frozen Food Co., Ltd., which is located in Donghua South Road. At that time, the font and color of "Five Rams Ice Cream" and "Five Rams Ice Cream" were very similar to those of the Hong Kong Dairy Company, and the packaging style was also very similar.
In 1988, Wuyang Ice Cream won the only gold medal in the cold drink category of the first China Food Expo. Wuyang ice cream products have won more than 30 titles of high-quality products by the Ministry of Light Industry (revoked), Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City.
In June 1995, Nestle Milk Holdings Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou People's Food Factory jointly established "Guangzhou Nestle Milk Co., Ltd.", with a total investment and registered capital of 32.29 million US dollars and an operating period of 50 years.
In September 1997, the Hong Kong Dairy Farm Company sold its 49% stake to Nestlé for US$40 million, thereby exiting the ice-cream and frozen products manufacturing industry. As the brand of "Dairy Farm Company" is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, Nestlé Milk Hong Kong continues to use the term "Dairy Farm Company" and adds "Nestle" for identification.
On May 17, 1999, Guangzhou People's Food Factory cooperated with Nestle Co., Ltd. to operate Guangzhou Frozen Food Co., Ltd. through equity transfer, and became one of the operating factories invested by Nestle Co., Ltd. in China, accounting for 97% of the shares. Ronald Houston is the factory manager of Guangzhou Frozen Food Co., Ltd., and has been the general manager of Guangzhou Frozen Food Co., Ltd. and the general manager of Guangzhou Nestle Milk Co., Ltd. since December 2005.
After Nestle's joint venture with Wuyang, new products are launched every year, and Wuyang's trademark is also consistent with the trademark of Nestle ice cream: the red "Wuyang brand" has a blue oval on the outside, and Nestle is also a red word, with a light blue trapezoidal outside; The names and designs of some of the products are also very close to those of Nestlé Hong Kong, and the packaging of the Kifun series maintains the comic design style of the Hong Kong Dairy Company. Compared with the Nestle series of ice cream, the price of the Wuyang series is more popular, and the price has been maintained at a low level. The company has also introduced advanced production lines, such as the Big Drum production line, which produces Nestlé's core strategic product, and established a new product development laboratory to promote new product development.
According to the market data of 2006, in 2005, Wuyang brand ice cream increased by 23% compared with previous years, and Nestle brand ice cream increased by 30%. Nestle and Wuyang brand ice cream products have maintained their leading position in the market.
In 2008, Wuyang Ice Cream Factory moved to Yonghe Development Zone, and the old factory was vacant until 2010. Donghua South Road, where the former site of the ice cream factory is located, belonged to the city center outside the city center before the 80s (near the former Guangjiu Railway Station), and due to urban development, the neighborhood has been surrounded by private houses and shops. Due to the chemical equipment produced by the ice cream factory is a safety hazard to nearby residences, the company decided to relocate in 08 and only keep the office opposite the old factory.
In August 2010, the annex building of the old factory building of Wuyang Ice Cream was demolished, and the main building was sold to the new owner, Guangzhou Light Industry and Trade Group, and began to be converted into a hotel. Completed in September 11.
In July 2011, the price of Wuyang ice cream was raised, and the red bean ice cream, which has been sold for more than 20 years, was increased to 1.5 yuan.
