Founded in 1956, Capital University of Economics and Business is a key university in Beijing established by the merger of the former Beijing University of Economics and the former Beijing Institute of Finance and Trade in March 1995. In the past 60 years, the university has developed into a modern and multidisciplinary university of finance and economics with six disciplines, including economics, management, law, literature, science and engineering, with economics and management as important characteristics and outstanding advantages, and each discipline supporting each other and developing in a coordinated manner.
The headquarters of the Capital Economic and Trade School is located in Huaxiang, Fengtai District, focusing on full-time undergraduate and graduate education, and the Hongmiao Campus is located in Hongmiao, Chaoyang District, focusing on international students and adult education.
The university has 4 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees in applied economics, management science and engineering, business administration, and statistics, 4 postdoctoral research stations in applied economics, statistics, business administration, and management science and engineering, 10 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 17 professional master's degree authorized points, and 43 majors for undergraduate education. Labor economics has been approved as a national key discipline and selected as a "characteristic key discipline project" by the Ministry of Education. Applied economics and statistics were approved as first-level disciplines and key disciplines in Beijing, ranking 12th and 15th among 88 participating universities in the third round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, and ranking 5th among financial and economic universities. Business management and accounting have been approved as second-level disciplines, Beijing key disciplines, management science and engineering have been approved as first-level disciplines, Beijing key construction disciplines, and political economy and other 7 disciplines have been approved as second-level disciplines, Beijing key construction disciplines. At present, the university has 17,948 students, including 9,908 undergraduates, 221 junior college students, 2,797 master's students, 351 doctoral students, 1,016 international students, and 3,655 adult education students. In recent years, the school's undergraduate enrollment admission scores have always been among the best among the municipal universities; The proportion of graduates who are admitted to graduate school and go abroad has been continuously improved, and the employment rate has remained above 95%, which is widely recognized by the society.
The university has 1,471 faculty members, including 813 full-time teachers, and 67% of the teachers have doctoral degrees, including 172 professors and 301 associate professors. There are 68 doctoral supervisors and 418 master's supervisors. The Institute of Megacities of Capital University of Economics and Business is the Beijing Collaborative Innovation Center. The university has municipal-level research institutions such as the Beijing Philosophy and Social Sciences CBD Development Research Base and the Beijing Economic and Social Development Policy Research Base, as well as 30 university-level research institutions such as the Institute of Population Economics and the Capital Economic Research Institute. Economics and Management Research sponsored by the school is a CSSCI source journal, a national Chinese core journal, a Chinese social science core journal, and an RCCSE core journal. Population and Economy is one of the earliest demographic journals in China, and is one of the 200 important journals funded by CSSCI source journals, national Chinese core journals, Chinese humanities and social sciences core journals, and the National Social Science Foundation.
The university has academic exchanges and cooperation with 117 universities, research institutions, and social organizations in 28 countries and regions. Since 1986, the university has been recruiting international students, and has developed into a multi-level and multidisciplinary international talent training system, including doctoral students, master's students, undergraduates, senior scholars, general scholars, language students and various short-term students. In 2007, the university launched a master's program taught entirely in English, and in 2011, a doctoral program taught entirely in English was launched. There are currently international students from more than 70 countries, with 1,016 students enrolled in 2016.
