Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, founded in Wuhan in 1948, is a humanities and social sciences university with economics/law/management as the backbone of the "211 Project" and "985 Project Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform".
Zhongnan University of Economics and Law is an ordinary higher education institution directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, which focuses on economics, law and management, and has nine disciplines such as philosophy, literature, history, science, engineering and art. The school has two campuses, the Nanhu Campus is located on the shores of the beautiful Nanhu Lake, and the Shouyi Campus is located under the historic Yellow Crane Tower.
The history is profound, and the development is stable and fast. The predecessor of the university was founded in 1948 by the Central Plains Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with Deng Xiaoping as the first secretary, and the second secretary Chen Yi served as the director of the preparatory committee. In 1953, in the adjustment of colleges and universities across the country, based on the School of Finance and Economics and the School of Political Science and Law of Zhongyuan University, the departments of finance and economics and politics and law of many colleges and universities in six provinces in Central and South China were gathered, and Zhongnan University of Finance and Economics and Zhongnan University of Political Science and Law were established respectively. In 1958, Zhongnan University of Finance and Economics, Zhongnan University of Political Science and Law, Zhongnan School of Political Science and Law, and the Law Department of Wuhan University merged to form Hubei University. During the Cultural Revolution, education was severely damaged, and in 1971, Hubei University was renamed Hubei College of Finance and Economics. In January 1978, the university was renamed Hubei University of Finance and Economics with the approval of Hubei Province, and became one of the first universities to resume enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students. In January 1979, with the approval of the State Council, Hubei University of Finance and Economics was led by the Ministry of Finance and Hubei Province, with the Ministry of Finance as the main body. In December 1984, based on the Law Department of Hubei University of Finance and Economics, the Zhongnan University of Political Science and Law was restored and rebuilt, under the leadership of the Ministry of Justice. In September 1985, Hubei University of Finance and Economics was renamed Zhongnan University of Finance and Economics, and Deng Xiaoping personally inscribed the name of the school. In February 2000, the State Council approved the plan of the Ministry of Education, and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law merged with Zhongnan University of Political Science and Law to form the new Zhongnan University of Economics and Law on May 26, 2000. In September 2005, the university entered the ranks of key universities under the national "211 Project". In June 2011, the university entered the ranks of key universities in the national "985 Project Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform" project. In October 2012, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the Hubei Provincial People's Government signed a formal agreement to jointly establish Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.
The faculty is strong and the scientific research achievements are outstanding. The school consists of 20 colleges, including the School of Marxism, the School of Philosophy, the School of Economics, the School of Finance and Taxation, the School of Finance, the School of Law, the School of Criminal Justice, the School of Foreign Chinese, the School of Journalism and Cultural Communication, the School of Business Administration, the School of Accounting (Huishuo Center), the School of Public Administration (MPA Center), the School of Statistics and Mathematics, the School of Information and Security Engineering, the Wenlan College, the School of Intellectual Property, the MBA School, the School of Continuing Education (School of Online Education), the School of International Education, and the School of China-Korea New Media.

The university cooperates with Dongseo University in South Korea to hold undergraduate education programs in Visual Communication Design (Animation and Game) and Film Studies (Video Content), which is the first program of its kind by the Ministry of Education to cooperate with an Asian university.
