Southwestern University of Finance and Economics is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.

The school is located in Chengdu, a national historical and cultural city, the starting point of the Southern Silk Road, and known as the "Land of Abundance", with two campuses of Guanghua and Liulin, covering a total area of more than 2,300 acres. The school began as Guanghua University, founded in Shanghai in 1925. In 1938, due to the Anti-Japanese War, the Chengdu branch of Guanghua University was established by moving westward; From 1952 to 1953, the Sichuan University of Finance and Economics was established by bringing together the departments of finance and economics from 17 colleges and universities in southwest China, which was one of the four undergraduate finance and economics colleges in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and was also the only comprehensive higher financial institution in southwest China. After 1960, it was reverted to Sichuan University of Finance and Economics in 1978 after division, merger and renaming. In 1979, it was transferred from Sichuan Province to the People's Bank of China, gradually forming the school's unique financial industry background and excellent financial discipline advantages; In 1985, it was renamed Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, in 1997 it became a key university in the national "211 Project", in 2000 it was transferred to the Ministry of Education as an independent institution, and in 2011 it became a university in the construction of the national "985 Project" advantageous discipline innovation platform.
