Beijing TV was founded on May 16, 1979. In June 2001, the former Beijing Television merged with the former Beijing Cable Radio and Television Station to become one of the most influential and competitive mainstream media in China. At present, Beijing Satellite TV has covered 36 provincial capitals, municipalities directly under the central government, cities with separate planning, more than 80% of prefecture-level cities and more than 70% of county-level cities. On April 1, 2009, Beijing TV moved into the core area of Chaoyang District CBD - No. 98 Jianguo Road, Beijing Satellite TV, Literature and Art Channel, Science and Education Channel, Film and Television Drama Channel, Sports Channel, Youth Channel, and HD Channel were officially launched at the new site, which marked the official opening of six SD channels and one HD channel carried by the first phase of the new site of Beijing TV Station. At present, the other four channels - Finance Channel, Animation Channel, Life Channel, and Public Channel are still broadcast in the Suzhou Street work area.
The construction of the new site of Beijing TV Station lasted 6 years, covering an area of about 36,100 square meters, of which the construction area of the first phase of the project is 197,900 square meters. It has four highlights: super high-rise pure steel structure, intelligent building, open news studio, multi-functional studio theater and stage machinery, and has the ability to produce and broadcast 15 sets of self-run programs and HDTV high-definition television. Program editing and broadcasting is based on networking, with digitalization as the core, and realizes "signal acquisition digitization, program production networking, broadcast hard disk, storage data and intelligent management" in the entire process and all links of "collection, editing, broadcasting, storage and management". At present, the scale, function and scientific and technological content of Beijing TV station rank among the top provincial TV stations in the country.
