Phoenix TV was launched on March 31, 1996, with the purpose of "bringing Chinese people around the world closer", and is committed to providing high-quality Chinese TV programs for Chinese people all over the world. With a huge global market and a successful expansion strategy, Phoenix TV has developed into a multinational multimedia group with a strong reputation in the international community.
The Group's Phoenix Satellite TV Chinese Channel, Phoenix Satellite TV Information Channel, Phoenix Satellite TV Europe, Phoenix Satellite TV Americas and Phoenix Satellite TV Movie Channel cover more than 150 countries and regions in Asia Pacific, Europe, America, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa through AsiaSat-3, Eurobird, Telsat-12, Directv, Echostar, G3-C, Satmex-6 and other satellite live broadcast platforms.
In addition to television, the Group is also committed to developing other diversified businesses, including weekly, publishing, new media and broadcasting. In cooperation with Beijing People's Radio, Beijing Synchronous Advertising Communication Co., Ltd. was established to expand the domestic radio advertising and other business cooperation markets. On June 8, 2006, China Mobile (Hong Kong) Group Co., Ltd. became a shareholder of Phoenix Satellite TV and formed a strategic alliance with Phoenix Satellite TV to jointly develop, promote and distribute mobile content, products, services and new media applications.
Phoenix Satellite TV Holdings Limited was listed on the Growth Enterprise Market of Hong Kong on 30 June 2000.
Liu Changle, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix TV, has also won awards in various elections, and is known as "Media Wiser", "Chinese Business Leader" and "Global Chinese Program Provider Leader". In July 2004, Mr Lau was appointed as a Justice of the Peace by the HKSAR Government. In March 2005, Liu was co-opted as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Hong Kong. In November 2005, he was appointed by the Hong Kong Government as one of the 40 non-official members of the Committee on Economic and Economic Co-operation with the Mainland of the Hong Kong Commission on Strategic Development. Since 2005, he has served as President of the International Emmy Television Festival. In February 2007, Ernst & Young presented the "Media Entrepreneur of the Year Award" to Liu's "Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year China 2006" in recognition of his leadership of Phoenix TV for his outstanding achievements in the field of Chinese media and his visionary leadership and innovation capabilities.
