Sony Music Entertainment is a global record label, formerly known as Sony BMG Music Entertainment, a music business unit of Sony Corporation of Japan. Sony Music Entertainment is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, with a portfolio of well-known artists and many historical albums.In Europe and the United States, there are Michael Jackson, Westlife, Britney, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Arthur Kid, Jennifer Lopez, Pink Lady and other European and American ace kings and queens, and in Asia, there are Jay Chou, Nakajima Mika, Hatsune Miku, Rainie Yang, Xiao Yaxuan, Luo Zhixiang and other new era kings and queens.

History

Sony Music Columbia (Sony Music) and Bertelsmann AG (also translated as Boardman) music division - Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) was established in November 2004, headquartered in New York, USA, is the world's third largest music record label. In Japan, the Sony Music Group is independent of Sony BMG, but BMG Japan is the Sony Bertelsmann Group, which is directly under the global Sony Bertelsmann Group.

On August 5, 2008, Sony announced the acquisition of another 50% stake in Sony Bertelsmann held by Bertelsmann, which officially took effect on October 1, Sony Bertelsmann became a 100% subsidiary of Sony in the United States, and changed its name back to "Sony Music Entertainment" (Sony Mu).sic Entertainment Inc.，简称SMEI）。

On April 19, 2012, Sony Music Entertainment acquired EMI Music Publishing for $2.2 billion, making Sony the world's largest music library, owning 31% of the music rights in the record market.

In March 1968, Japan's Sony Corporation became a shareholder of Japan's Columbia Records and reorganized into CBS/Sony Records. In January 1988, under the leadership of Chairman Akio Morita, Sony successively acquired CBS's film and music division, making CBS/Sony 100% Sony's music department, and renamed Sony Music, and the official full name in Chinese is "Sony Columbia Music Entertainment", referred to as "Sony Music".

In Japan, the Sony Music Group was independent of the global Sony Music System, while BMG JAPAN was initially directly affiliated with the global Sony Boardman Group.
