Golden Phoenix Tea Restaurant is well-known in Wan Chai, and has been in operation for more than 60 years, and is one of the famous long-established tea restaurants in Hong Kong. Cai Lan, a famous gourmet, once stopped at this store to taste and praised Jinfeng Frozen Milk Tea. Jin Feng Tea Restaurant is in the downtown of Wan Chai, and the façade is only the size of an ordinary shop, so you will miss it if you are not careful.
Pineapple buns and milk tea are two essential foods in a tea restaurant, and they can also test the authenticity of a tea restaurant the most. It's not easy to take a commonplace food and stick to it all year round. In the early years, Hong Kong Ice House was not as diverse as the current tea restaurant, with only egg tarts and milk tea, and the economy was not good, and pineapple buns became synonymous with Hong Kong food culture because of their cheap prices.
At Jinfeng, almost every table of diners must order pineapple buns. The body of the bun seems to be similar, but in fact, whether it is authentic depends on the store's baking technique. The puff pastry is fluffy, the bread has a little yellowish tinge, the skin looks tough, and the inside is firm, unlike other pineapple buns. There is only one package for a single pineapple bun, which must be served with frozen butter and fried eggs; Coating the butter in the bun and waiting for the pineapple bun to warm up to melt the butter is the most authentic Hong Kong-style way to eat.
While waiting for the pineapple buns to come out, you can see if the equally famous chicken pie has been baked. Don't get me wrong, chicken batches are not chicken hips (legs). The Golden Phoenix Chicken Pies are made of chicken and ham as the main ingredients, and are fried and then put in the refrigerator for half a day to absorb the flavor. The chicken rind is made of butter, flour and egg yolk, and is seasoned with salt and milk. After the golden pineapple buns and chicken pies are baked, they are stacked directly in front of the restaurant with a baking tray, and the fragrance will remain in the air over the whole street, and the diners will immediately grab it.
I ordered pineapple buns and chicken pies, and I must match them with the store's signature - frozen milk tea. Milk tea seems to be simple to make, but the frozen milk tea in ordinary tea restaurants is made to order, that is, the hot milk tea is directly put into the ice cubes perfunctory, and the milk tea that diners drink is often only half a cup or cold at the top and hot at the bottom, and the water and milk tea will even be layered after being placed for a long time. Jinfeng frozen milk tea needs to be made first, and then put it in a large bottle in the refrigerator, and diners can pour it to order. The store promises that the milk tea will never be added with ice cubes, and it is genuine. The milk tea is silky smooth in the mouth, and the tea flavor is strong, so it is highly recommended.
The décor is old-fashioned and nostalgic, with menus embedded in each table, and the service is acceptable. There are many people in the restaurant, and the number of diners queuing up to buy pineapple buns is no less than Hey Tea, so it is recommended to choose to go and taste it in your spare time. If you don't have time to dine-in, you can also take away the desserts. It is important to note that we have a minimum of one drink per person, and food is not included. If you only drink boiled water and do not consume it, you will need to pay a seat fee of 10 yuan/person.
