With the impact of online e-commerce, the operation of physical bookstores has entered a cold winter, and Luming Bookstore has become one of the few academic bookstores around Fudan University that has successfully broken through and survived to this day.
Luming Bookstore is located in the graduate student living area of Fudan University, which is a spacious small courtyard on Zhengsu Road, surrounded by rows of bamboo, and the courtyard is very quiet. The bookstore is small, but well-organized and well-defined, with black bookshelves on one side and two rows of solid wood desks and chairs lining the bright floor-to-ceiling windows on the other. If you are careful enough, you will find many photo frames hanging on the bookshelves and wall posts in the corners, framing the past 20 years of Luming Bookstore, including handwritten account books, newspaper clippings, inscriptions from friends, old photos, etc., which are worth looking for and playing.
The current store of Luming Bookstore is provided by Fudan University. In November 1997, two Chinese students of Fudan University co-founded Luming Bookstore, at the end of 2013, due to the rise in shop rent, the bookstore faced the crisis of relocation and closure, in order to protect the rare physical bookstore on campus, Fudan University provided Luming Bookstore with today's venue, and implemented the preferential policy of free shop rent, which was tantamount to sending charcoal in the snow for Luming at that time.
Out of the understanding and familiarity with the major of literature and history, the bookstore positions itself as an academic bookstore of literature and history. The books on the shelves are mainly literature, history and philosophy, including ancient books of Chinese culture, history and geography, archaeology and folklore, traditional books of literature and history of language and writing, as well as books of Western philosophy, sociology and art history. The bookstore's customers are not only students, but also many Fudan professors and overseas sinologists will also look for books and order books in Luming Bookstore. In addition to selling new books, Luming Bookstore has also opened up the business of acquiring and selling used books, and there are two special shelves of used books displayed in a conspicuous position in the store, which not only contain academic books on literature and history, but also provide university textbooks for various subjects, and the books are in good condition.
For Fudan students, Luming Bookstore is not only a place to buy books, but also a quiet school. The shop is very quiet, the small wooden table is just enough for one person to sit alone or two people opposite each other, and the small bar provides drinks and light meals at an affordable price, which can well meet the needs of students for self-study. In addition, the bookstore also makes use of Fudan's rich academic resources to hold a lecture every two weeks, Luming Book Collection, and invites famous professors from Fudan to exchange and discuss with teachers and students, creating an excellent academic atmosphere.
