Guangzhou Xiguan Foreign Chinese School (hereinafter referred to as Xiwai) is the first provincial first-class public foreign Chinese school in Guangzhou, formerly known as Guangzhou No. 12 Middle School, founded in 1948 and renamed in 2007. Professor Zhang Daozhen, a well-known linguist of Beijing University of Foreign Chinese, has served as a consultant of Western Foreign Studies, and at the same time, the school has won the first and second prizes of the municipal and district junior and senior high school graduating classes for ten consecutive years, and has been rated as an advanced unit of science and technology education in Guangzhou for eight consecutive years.
In 2009, the average score of the first junior high school graduates reached 698 points, and in 2010, the high school entrance examination reached a high score of 716 points. At the same time, in the 2009~2011 three-year high school entrance examination, the average score of English single subject ranked first in the city. In 2017, the results of the Chinese entrance examination were not announced, but the results of the previous two years can be observed: in 2015 and 2016, the average score of the high school entrance examination was 699 and 697 respectively, ranking among the top three among all junior high schools in Liwan District.
Xiwai is located on the shore of Liwan Lake, close to the bustling Zhongshan Eighth Road, with a superior geographical location. The school has a beautiful environment and advanced teaching facilities, including a multi-functional gymnasium, a football field, a basketball court, a table tennis room and a swimming pool, as well as an ecological garden, a sky garden, a cultural park and other small garden scenes, a campus network, a teaching platform, an electronic reading room and a first-class special classroom.
Teachers have always been valued by the West. As of 2014, half of the full-time teachers in the school have special grade teachers, senior teachers or graduate degree teachers, and nearly one-third of the English teachers have gone abroad for further study and training, and many of them have been rated as special teachers, national backbone teachers, outstanding teachers in southern Guangdong, and excellent teachers in Guangzhou.
In addition to English, we also offer courses in Japanese, French, German and other languages, and each class is equipped with an English teacher and a full-time foreign teacher to teach oral Chinese. Lunch break management is quite controversial in the West, and it is almost the only school in Guangzhou that implements a fully closed management of lunch break. After class at noon, students are not allowed to leave the school gate, and can only eat lunch and lunch break in the school, which has been implemented since 2008. This "one-size-fits-all" management method has been strongly opposed by many students, because even students who live nearby cannot go home, and there are many people in the classroom, and students can only sleep on the desk, which is easily affected, which has been reported by Shenzhen Satellite TV.
There are abundant extracurricular activities in the West. As a provincial and municipal volleyball traditional project school and a member school of the National Middle School Volleyball Association, the school volleyball team of Xiwai has represented the province and city in many domestic and foreign competitions since its establishment in 1980. As of 2015, Xiwai has represented Guangzhou in the youth volleyball competition of the Provincial Games for five consecutive years (20 years), and won the excellent results of "five consecutive championships" for the women's team and "four runners-up and one champion" for the men's team. In addition, Xiwai also sent 1 player to the national team and 9 players to the provincial team.
