Zhixin Middle School is a commemorative school founded by Sun Yat-sen in 1921 to commemorate Mr. Chu Zhixin. Zhu Zhixin was an outstanding democratic revolutionary in modern China, and together with Liao Zhongkai, he was known as Sun Yat-sen's right-hand man. In the early days of its establishment, Zhixin was private, and the school board responsibility system was implemented, and Liao Zhongkai, Hu Hanmin, Sun Ke, Cai Yuanpei, Lin Sen, Li Dazhao, Dai Jitao and others were all school directors. Today, Zhixin Middle School is a school directly under the Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau and one of the first batch of provincial key middle schools in Guangdong Province.

In the 2017 high school entrance examination, Zhixin achieved outstanding results. There were 14 students who scored more than 750 in the examination, accounting for 5.36% of the total number of students in the examination. There were 141 students with a score of 698 or above (high scores in advance), accounting for 54.02%; There were 221 students with a score of 622 or above (the minimum admission threshold for early approval), accounting for 84.67%. Among them, 11 people received full marks in physics. In the city's public junior high schools, Zhixin ranks among the best.

There are nearly 60 full-time teachers with master's degrees, accounting for about 30% of the total number of teachers. There are more than 200 teachers with bachelor's degree or equivalent, accounting for 99.5%; 40% of teachers with senior professional titles; About 77 per cent of teachers have intermediate titles or above. Among these teachers, there are many provincial-level special-grade teachers, national model teachers, national outstanding teachers and experts with special allowances from the State Council, with rich teaching experience. The English subject group was also rated as the "National Top 100 Subject Group", and the Chinese, Politics, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, History, Physics and other subjects were rated as excellent subject groups in Guangzhou.

Zhixin has set up a key class in the school headquarters, namely Zhixin Aoban, which is one of the "four key classes of public schools" sought after by many parents. Its teaching is mainly based on Olympiad mathematics, and the learning content of mathematics is relatively advanced, and teachers often expand extracurricular content in the classroom. At the same time, the enrollment method of Zhixin Aoban is the same as that of the provincial key class, which is more "mysterious", and adopts the enrollment method of point recruitment. The students said that there was not much pressure to study in Zhixin, there was not much homework, and the exams became more frequent as the third year of junior high school approached.

The school has nearly 40 clubs, and its Model United Nations club has been to foreign countries for many times to exchange with local students. Zhixin also has dance teams, orchestras and choirs, and has won good results in provincial and municipal competitions, and the school's dance team went to Columbia University in 2013 to participate in the performance and won the gold medal. Zhixin is also a traditional sports project school in four cities, including badminton, swimming, basketball, and track and field, as well as a traditional sports project school in badminton province, which has won gold and silver in various competitions. In 2010, Zhixin was awarded the title of "Guangdong Provincial Sports Characteristic School" by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau, and in 2011, it was approved by the General Administration of Sports of the People's Republic of China to establish the first national-level "Guangzhou Zhixin Youth Sports Club" among municipal schools.

The school building has a strong Lingnan style. There is an antique building on each side of the north and south squares, with a unique design and a solid building, which has a history of more than 90 years. Today, there are two Red Buildings, one for the school's international department and the other for the school's art building. Zhixin may be the only school in the country or even the world with mausoleum relics. The tomb of Zhu Zhixin, a cultural relics protection unit in Guangzhou, is located on the campus of Zhixin Middle School, and there are candy, banknotes, coins and other items in front of the tomb all year round. It has become a tradition that students will always come to the tomb to pray for a smooth exam, and it has become a tradition to walk around the tomb three times after praying.

Guangzhou Zhixin Middle School has a 400-meter track and field, an open-air swimming pool, and 6 professional-level piano rooms, vocal training rooms, Chinese painting rooms, photography rooms, art appreciation rooms, music appreciation rooms, etc., a total of 18 functional rooms, in addition to A-level canteens, ecological and environmental protection parks, pottery workshops, etc., classrooms, laboratories, multi-functional rooms are equipped with multimedia teaching platforms and central air conditioning. The price of each meal in the school cafeteria is between 10~20 yuan. At present, there are two campuses in Zhixin Junior High School, namely the main campus of Zhixin South Road and the Shuiyin Road campus. It is also understood that Zhixin Junior High School will move to the Shuiyin Road Campus as a whole around 2020.
