One of the first seven foreign Chinese language schools in the country, it was established in 1963. During the Cultural Revolution and in 1981, the Guangzhou Foreign Chinese School (hereinafter referred to as Guangwai) was closed twice, and was only able to resume in 2007. Today, GFSU is the only municipal public, full-time boarding foreign language school in Guangzhou.
In 2012, the high school entrance examination was the first major examination since the resumption of the school, and a total of 78 students took the exam, 52 of whom scored more than 700 points, and 6 of whom scored more than 750 points, with an average score of 708.69 points and fifth in Guangzhou. In the 2017 high school entrance examination, Guangwai once again achieved good results. Among them, the highest score was 769 points, 14 students scored 750 points or more, 239 students scored 700 points or more, and the average score of the top 180 students was 733.9 points.
GFSU pays attention to the development of students' foreign language specialties and adopts the teaching mode of "5 1 2 2", that is, in a fixed 5 basic English classes per week, an additional English listening and speaking class, 2 reading and writing activity classes, and 2 elective courses for secondary foreign languages are set up to create a better foreign language learning atmosphere for students and ensure that students have a good English foundation and master a second foreign language at the same time. However, due to the small number of elective courses for second foreign languages in Guangzhou Foreign Language, and at the same time does not affect the results of the big entrance examination, most students are not interested in this course, and there are not many students who can really master a second foreign language after studying.
In terms of club activities, the street dance club and the Latin dance club are more popular among students, with a high level of participation, many students participate, and the activities held are also more interesting. Despite the large number of clubs in Guangzhou, the school still does not pay much attention to club activities, the clubs lack support, most of the clubs have an empty shell, in fact, they will not hold one or two activities in a semester, and gradually become a formality. Moreover, the curriculum of Guangwai is compact, and there is not much time left for club activities, in contrast, the school pays more attention to classroom teaching.
Guangwai is located in Nansha District, the geographical location is relatively remote, the traffic is also relatively inconvenient, and the surrounding area is mostly some real estate projects under development. The school has a history room, a geography room, a biological garden and other classrooms that meet the learning requirements of each subject, modern teaching equipment, and sports venues such as football fields and basketball courts. The Guangwai campus has a wide area, the architectural style is Western-style, and there are artificial lakes and some artificial landscapes on the campus, and the overall environment is still very good.
Due to its remote location and enrollment for the whole city, Guangwai implements a full boarding system. The dormitory conditions are more general, beds and cabinets and other facilities are relatively old, each living 6~8 people, the beds are bunk beds, with a balcony and two toilets, there is air conditioning in the dormitory, but the air conditioning is only powered until 4 o'clock in the morning, in addition, there is a coin-operated laundry machine in the dormitory corridor. According to students, the food in the canteen is also average, and many students choose to order takeout, but the school prohibits takeout, so it may not be easy to eat a delicious meal in Guangwai.
