Mandarin Oriental has long been known for its cuisine, as a global luxury hotel chain, Mandarin Oriental first set up a flagship store in Hong Kong in 1963, and in 2017, Mandarin Oriental's 12 restaurants were awarded 18 Michelin stars, making it the most Michelin star hotel group in the world. Although Guangzhou is not currently in the Michelin category, it does not affect the high-quality cuisine that Mandarin Oriental brings to the hotel, and if you are lucky, you will also meet Michelin-starred chefs to perform at the hotel. Cultural Oriental Hotel's western restaurant, Ebony, provides self-service dining, focusing on French cuisine, and the standard is worthy of the conscience of the industry. Appetizer salad, French soup with standard pairing, baguettes and bread are all available, and the indispensable seafood and sashimi are also served fresh. Nowadays, restaurants are swaggering around with their signature dishes, but it's really hard to name Ebony's signature dishes, the main dishes change every Monday, and the dishes change according to the season, and the dishes are almost the same, so it can be said that Ebony is the most diligent buffet restaurant to change the menu. Some people may mention Ebony's usual dish, steak, but it is not included in the buffet set menu, so you need to order it separately. Ebony's buffet is a semi-buffet buffet, with a starter and dessert buffet, and a choice of main course. Because there is no so-called special sign, even if you leave the main dish to the chef, you don't have to worry about stepping on thunder, and the meat and vegetables are just right. Ebony's kitchen is also open-plan, so you can see the chef from start to finish. Interestingly, the sandwiches here are very miniature – only a third of the size of a regular sandwich and are arranged on a thermostatic baking sheet so that they are still hot and crispy when eaten, and the portions are not large enough to take up your stomach and eat other dishes. I have to mention Ebony's desserts. The desserts are sourced from Mandarin Oriental's own dessert shop, located in the nearby Taikoo Hui shopping mall, which is one of the top three in Guangzhou's dessert scene. Even on weekdays when there are not many customers, there are macarons in the dessert section, which are authentic French flavors. Secondly, we recommend the chocolate cake, the chocolate taste is very strong, and there is little sweetness, slightly bitter with a fragrance. The Ebony semi-buffet set menu provides coffee or tea, and when the meal is over, the waiter will come over and ask if you need coffee or tea, whether it is a post-meal relief or the end of the meal. The waiters remember the names of the guests from the moment they enter, and they provide newspapers and magazines when they are seated, so you will not feel inhibited or embarrassed when you eat alone. The ambience and ambiance of Ebony, along with the entire Mandarin Oriental Hotel, is the work of world-class designer Ji Yutang. The restaurant's warm black décor echoes Ebony's ebony allegories and is considered a mecca for literary lunches. If you're still a detail-seeker, Ebony won't let you down, with cutlery from the well-known German cutlery brand sambonet, and two sets of cutlery per table. At present, Ebony Restaurant has suspended the full buffet service on Fridays, and the buffet catering service open to the public is only semi-buffet lunch from Monday to Saturday and brunch on Sundays. In addition, all purchases are subject to a 15% service charge.
