Wuchuan, affiliated to China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, was built in 1934 and was one of the 156 key national construction projects during the "First Five-Year Plan" period. In January 1953, it was renamed Wuchang Shipyard. In 2011 and 2013, in accordance with the overall deployment of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation on reform and listing, the main body of the shipbuilding industry entered the "China Heavy Industry" in two phases, and established "Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd." and "Wuhan Wuchuan Investment Holding Co., Ltd.", collectively referred to as "Wuchuan".
