Stella McCartney was born in London, England, grew up in the countryside, and graduated from Central St Martins in 1995. Her first collection was a bold and confident collection that exuded feminine sensuality. In 1997, just after launching two collections, she was appointed Creative Director of Chloe Paris, a position she held with great success.

In 2001, Stella McCartney partnered with Kering to form a 50/50 joint venture to launch the eponymous boutique under her own name. In October 2001, she presented her first eponymous collection in Paris. Stella McCartney has dedicated her life to veganism, refusing to use any leather and fur materials in her designs. Her product range includes women's ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, fragrances and children's clothing.

Stella McCartney currently operates 51 independent boutiques in Manhattan's Soho, London's Mayfair and Brompton Cross, Los Angeles' West Hollywood, Paris's Palais Royal, Milan, Tokyo, Shanghai and Beijing. Today, her collections are sold in more than 77 countries through more than 863 distributors in specialty stores and high-end department stores, as well as in 100 countries through online mail order.

In 2003, Stella McCartney successfully launched her first fragrance, "Stella". In addition to her main collections, she has been working with adidas since September 2004. The adidas by Stella McCartney collection has been so well received for its athletic performance that it has been successfully expanded to include professional sports such as running, fitness, yoga, tennis, swimming, winter sports, and cycling.

Officially launched in 2008, the new lingerie collection has coveted styles to meet the needs of the modern woman. In the winter of 2010, Stella McCartney unveiled the Falabella bag, which has been a bestseller of the designer since its distinctive braided chain detail. Also in 2010, the first Stella McCartney childrenswear collection was launched, with sleek styles that accurately embody the spirit of the modern child, from newborn babies to 14-year-olds.

In 2011, all of Stella McCartney's sunglasses collections were designed to be eco-friendly and have been incorporated into optical eyewear and children's eyewear collections.

At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, Stella McCartney was appointed Creative Director of the British National Team by adidas – the first time in the history of the Games that a top fashion designer has designed a competition uniform for athletes in all Olympic and Paralympic sports.

2016 was a year of great results for the brand's designers. In March, she launched a new fragrance, POP, representing a new generation of fearless, uninhibited women. This summer, she unveiled her first full-length swimwear collection, inspired by the confidence and femininity of women, giving the collection a distinctively modern design without sacrificing functionality and form. In addition, the designer has once again been appointed by adidas as the creative director of the British national team jersey for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Recently, she launched her first menswear line under the eponymous brand.
