GOYARD brand introduction

GOYARD Elegancelogo

Founded in France in 1853, Gaude Commercial (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is the originator of French family-owned boxmakers, whose products are popular in the fashion industry with their dotted Y-printed fabrics and consistent quality

Founded in 1853, Goyard has a history of more than 150 years and was founded by Francois Goyard. In the nineteenth century, trains and ships were developed in Europe.

There is a phenomenon of mass travel in society. At that time, the royal family, aristocrats, and wealthy people loved to travel in early spring, and it took several months to go at a time, and they needed a lot of wooden trunks to store a large number of clothes and daily necessities, such as books, polo supplies, toiletries, etc., hoping to be as comfortable as at home during the trip.

Goyard has designed suitcases for different purposes, such as the Diptyque candle case and champagne suitcase, which is a first-of-its-kind design. In the 1920s, he designed the first suitcase to hold a typewriter, paper and document books, and was granted a patent by the luggage department of the French government. There are also bicycle crates and beer crates that have never been seen before.

As a result, Goyard's clientele includes the British royal family, the President of the United States and the Russian aristocracy, with the wife of Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle customing desks for her husband to go out and Naomi Campbell customizing suitcases for her dogs. As long as the guest asks, Goyard can do it, and it can be said that it has swept the entire high society in Europe and the United States.

Goyard's travel baskets are particularly sleek and shiny. Because they are all made of waterproof canvas bags, they are woven from a mixture of linen, cotton and hemp fibres and then coated with glossy gum aldehydes (Crystal Gum Arabic), making the already waterproof and solid aspen and beech travel wooden boxes even more durable. Together with the metal hardware: corner protectors, locks and handles, every part is hand-inlaid by the worker, and every nail, every stitch, every leather fold is like a French handicraft.

The Y-shaped motif on Goyard canvas was first coined in 1892, and this decorative motif first appeared in a suitcase, predating LV's Monogram motif.

The patterns on the canvas are also imprinted by the workers point by point, rather than the stencil. Each dot on the Y, inspired by the four flowers, is represented by four colors. Traditionally in France, the Y-shaped pattern is the symbol of the tree, which in turn symbolizes the man, and this Y-shaped pattern composed of three Vs is extended to the three generations of men of the Goyard family.

In terms of feel, the canvas leather bag is light and soft, which is a great blessing for travelers, and there is no stiff or overly soft appearance. From the round shape of the handle, each artificially made line, and the careful placement of the hand belt, etc., it is simple, delicate and meticulous, giving people an intimate feeling.

We can do personalize service for customers, and draw personal initials and special meanings on handbags or suitcases, but if you want to add a special pattern like Ye Liang Meilan, you must discuss with the designer face-to-face. Although Mr.Alex Signoles comes to Hong Kong from time to time and it is difficult to meet all the customer requirements, the store staff can also provide customers with some simple ordering services, such as adding abbreviations and straight bars. Generally, three letters or numbers should be 0, and a straight bar should be 0, but the price of special patterns should be negotiated with the designer.

However, in 1998 the Goyard family sold the family business that had been passed down for generations to Jean-Michel Signoles. In fact, Signoles was already a loyal fan of Goyard long before the acquisition, and he has a large collection of antique luggage, and this acquisition is actually a wish of his.

Signoles still adheres to the traditional craftsmanship of Goyard, with hundreds of bag-making technicians in the French factory, who insist on hand-making every step of the way, because every box sold provides a lifetime of after-sales service. Therefore, any small detail, such as finding a top-quality aspen wood for luggage support, is unavoidable.

Goyard changed its strategy two years ago, launching a number of modern handbags and developing more than 10 new colours, further expanding Goyard's footprint.
