Hubei Institute of Fine Arts is a multidisciplinary and multi-educational institution of higher art in central China. The predecessor of the school was Wuchang Art School, which was founded in 1920, and was later named "Private Wuchang Art College" (referred to as Wuchang Art School). As one of the earliest art colleges in China, our school is an important birthplace of modern and modern art education in China, and in the history of more than 90 years, it has always adhered to the academic spirit of "inclusiveness" and the teaching concept of "compatibility and interaction", cultivated generation after generation of outstanding talents who serve the society with "respect for morality, dedication to learning, sensitivity to practice, and beauty", and has made unique contributions to the development of Chinese art.
At present, the school has two campuses, Zanglong Island and Tanhualin, covering an area of more than 700 acres, with more than 8,000 students at all academic levels.
The school has 12 faculties, including the Department of Chinese Painting, the Department of Oil Painting, the Department of Printmaking, the Department of Mural and Comprehensive Material Painting, the Department of Sculpture, the Department of Design, the Department of Fashion Art Design, the Department of Environmental Art Design, the Department of Industrial Design, the Department of Watercolor Painting, the Department of Fine Arts, and the School of Animation, as well as the Department of Visual Arts, the Department of Public Courses, the Department of Marxist-Leninist Theory, and the School of Continuing Education and Training.
At present, the school has 3 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points in fine arts, design, and art theory, as well as 21 undergraduate majors and 33 professional directions in Chinese painting, calligraphy, painting, public art, sculpture, visual communication design, photography, film and television photography and production, environmental design, landscape architecture, clothing and apparel design, industrial design, product design, animation, digital media art, drama, film and television art design, art history theory, art design, fine arts, art education, and cultural industry management. And all of them have the right to confer bachelor's degrees. In 2010, the university signed an agreement with other universities to jointly train doctoral students, forming a new pattern of high-level art talent training in central China.
As one of the first batch of 32 pilot units for MFA education in China, the school currently has 10 people who enjoy the special government allowance of the State Council, 9 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the province, 12 people who enjoy the special allowance of the provincial government, 2 candidates for the second level of the Hubei New Century High-level Talent Project, 1 "Chutian Scholar" lecturer, and 33 visiting (part-time) professors. There are four provincial-level research centers, including Hubei Modern Public Visual Art Design Research Center, IFA Fashion Art Research Center, Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center, Chu Fine Arts and Southern China Pre-Qin Art Form Research Center, with 9 research institutes. At present, the university has established 3 characteristic major construction sites of colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, 2 national excellent courses, 1 national talent training model innovation experimental area, 1 "professional reform pilot project" of colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, 1 national college student innovation and entrepreneurship training program, 1 national college student off-campus practical education base project, 2 national high-quality resource sharing course projects, and a total of 33 provincial "quality engineering" and "undergraduate teaching engineering" construction projects in Hubei Province. In addition, Tan Hualin Art District was awarded the "Hubei Provincial Cultural Industry Demonstration Base".
The university actively participates in academic exchanges at home and abroad. Famous Chinese and foreign artists are invited to serve as visiting professors and special lecturers of the school, and teachers are selected to go abroad for academic visits and research every year, and long-term academic cooperation has been established with some foreign art academies.
