The Central Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1918 as the Beijing Academy of Fine Arts, is a famous art institution directly under the Ministry of Education, leading the process of art education in China

The Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) is the only higher art school directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. At present, there are eight professional branches: the School of Chinese Painting, the School of Plastic Arts, the School of Design, the School of Architecture, the School of Humanities, the School of Urban Design, the School of Experimental Art, and the School of Art Administration and Education, as well as the Institute of Plastic Arts, the School of Continuing Education, and the Affiliated Secondary Art School. Every year, the college recruits secondary school students (affiliated middle school), junior college students (adult education), undergraduates, master's students, doctoral students and various advanced students. At present, there are 572 faculty members, more than 4,700 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 100 international students from more than a dozen countries. The teaching and research area of the college covers a total area of 495 acres, with a total construction area of 247,000 square meters.

The college is committed to building a modern form of art education discipline structure in which modeling, design, architecture, humanities and other disciplines support and influence each other, play a leading role in the construction of an art education system with Chinese characteristics in the new century, and win high praise from the international art education community with distinctive Chinese characteristics, high-level teaching quality and research results, and become a representative, leading and exemplary art school in the field of higher art education in China, and enjoys an important position in the world-class art academies.

History

The predecessor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts was the National Beiping Art College, which can be traced back to the establishment of the National Beijing Art School in 1918 at the initiative of the famous educator Mr. Cai Yuanpei, with the famous art educator Zheng Jin as the first president. This is the first national art education institution in the history of China, and it is also the beginning of modern art education in China.

In November 1949, the National Beiping Art College merged with the Art Department of North China University, the predecessor of which was the Art Department of Yan'an Lu Xun Art Institute, which was established in 1938. With the approval of the Central People's Government, the National Academy of Fine Arts was established, and Chairman Mao Zedong inscribed the name of the academy. Xu Beihong served as the first president.

In January 1950, with the approval of the Government Council of the Central People's Government, it was officially named the Central Academy of Fine Arts. On April 1, the inauguration ceremony of the Central Academy of Fine Arts was held at the site of No. 5 Xiaowei Hutong in Wangfujing.

Famous teachers throughout the ages

In the 95 years of running the school, the Central Academy of Fine Arts has brought together a group of high-end artistic talents represented by masters in the Chinese art world, forming a spectacular elite team of art education.

Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Central Academy of Fine Arts attracted many famous artists to serve as teachers in the tortuous course of running a school, including Chinese painting masters, such as Chen Shizeng, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Pan Tianshou, Lu Fengzi, Chen Zhifo, Jiang Zhaohe, Ye Qianyu, Fu Xinshe, Wu Jingting, Li Kuchan, Li Keran, Wang Xuetao, etc., as well as art masters and historians who returned from studying abroad, such as Lin Fengmian, Xu Beihong, Wu Fading, Wen Yiduo, Teng Gu, Wu Zuoren, Chang Shuhong, Ai Qing, Pang Xunqin, Wang Linyi, Hua Tianyou, Zhu Guangqian, etc., a group of influential people in the literary and artistic circles have also taught or taught part-time in our school, such as Yu Dafu, Zhou Zuoren, Xie Bingxin, Xiong Foxi, Xiao Youmei, Liu Tianhua, etc., and have cultivated a group of influential talents, such as Wang Ziyun, Liu Kaiqu, Tan Zuyao, Xian Xinghai, Lei Guiyuan, Li Jianchen, Wang Manshuo, Fu Tianqiu, etc.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Central Academy of Fine Arts was full of talents, and a large number of artistic talents with progressive ideas and profound humanistic qualities were formed in our institute, and this outstanding team in creation and teaching was a grand spectacle in the Chinese art world and Chinese art education circles at that time, and our institute became the art academy with the strongest faculty among the art academies in the country. In addition to the above-mentioned teachers mentioned before the founding of the People's Republic of China, various majors have gathered and successively cultivated a group of artists and art theorists who are well-known throughout the country. Introduction to the subject

There are 20 undergraduate majors in our school, including Chinese Painting, Calligraphy, Painting, Sculpture, Experimental Art, Visual Communication Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, Digital Media Art, Fashion and Apparel Design, Photography, Fine Arts, Art History, Cultural Industry Management, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Film and Television Photography and Production, Environmental Design, Public Art, and Animation.

Since 2004, the Faculty has been piloting the credit-based teaching administration and the new Faculty Calendar, with 38 teaching weeks per year divided into three semesters. The first semester is 20 weeks, mainly arranging the compulsory courses prescribed by the school and various professional colleges; The second semester is 10 weeks, mainly arranging various professional courses and out-of-town teaching courses; The third semester lasts for 8 weeks, and the school mainly arranges professional elective courses and public elective courses, and students can choose interprofessional courses according to their hobbies and professional development needs.

Teaching conditions

The teaching and research area of the Central Academy of Fine Arts covers a total area of 495 acres, with a total construction area of 247,000 square meters. Among them, the Wangjing campus covers an area of 205 acres with a construction area of 144,000 square meters, the Yanjiao campus covers an area of 205 acres with a construction area of 68,000 square meters, the Houshayu campus covers an area of 67 acres with a construction area of 29,000 square meters, and the Xiaoying campus covers an area of 18 acres with a construction area of 6,000 square meters.

The Central Academy of Fine Arts has well-conditioned classrooms, professional experimental workshops (laboratories), libraries, art galleries, gymnasiums, multimedia classrooms and other teaching facilities. The professional experimental workshop (laboratory) is well-equipped and has high technical content, which strongly supports the professional teaching and discipline construction of our institute. The library is one of the most advanced art libraries in China, with nearly 400,000 books. The museum has a valuable collection, including more than 2,000 scroll paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The museum also regularly holds exhibitions of the works of teachers and students of the college, and undertakes art exhibitions with high academic standards at home and abroad. In addition, the gymnasium and multimedia classrooms can well meet the teaching requirements.
