Shenyang Conservatory of Music is a higher music and art school with a long history and glorious tradition, whose predecessor can be traced back to Lu Xun Art Academy. Lu Xun Art Institute was founded in Yan'an in 1938 by Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation, and was the first higher art college founded by the Communist Party of China. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the college moved from Yan'an to Northeast China, and was located in Shenyang at the end of 1948, and was renamed Northeast Lu Xun Literature and Art Institute in 1949. In 1953, on the basis of the Music Department of Northeast Lu Xun Academy of Literature and Art, the Northeast Music College was established, and in 1958, it was renamed Shenyang Conservatory of Music. The first dean, the famous composer and music educator Li Zaofu, and the current dean, the famous singer and music educator Liu Hui.

Since its establishment, the college has always taken the prosperity of national music culture and serving the people as its own responsibility, and has made outstanding contributions in different historical stages of national independence and people's liberation, socialist revolution and construction, and socialist reform and opening up. The college has four campuses: Main Campus, Changqing Campus, Taoxian Campus and Dalian Campus. The college focuses on undergraduate and postgraduate education, and also has an affiliated secondary music school and an affiliated secondary dance school. It has 12 undergraduate majors in music and dance and drama and film and television in the category of arts, and has been awarded two first-level master's degrees in art theory and music and dance by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and the first batch of Master of Arts (MFA) awarded by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
