Founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Sun Yat-sen University has a tradition of more than 100 years of running a school, and is an important academic and cultural center in southern China and a southern highland for talent training. The main campus is located in Guangzhou, China's modern metropolis, and the campus also extends to the beautiful coastal city of Zhuhai. As a university directly under the Ministry of Education of China, with the joint support of the Ministry of Education and Guangdong Province, Sun Yat-sen University has become a first-class university in China and internationally renowned through the construction of the "211 Project" and the "985 Project".
Lingnan (University) College of Sun Yat-sen University is affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University, with the leadership and support of the State Council, the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province and the school, and with the care and funding of Lingnan seniors and people from all walks of life at home and abroad, following the national education line, guidelines and policies, adhering to Mr. Sun Yat-sen's school motto of "erudition, inquiry, prudence, discernment, and dedication", forge ahead, devote itself to the exploration and practice of education internationalization reform, and practice the Lingnan tradition of "cultivating talents and serving the society" with actions. History of the Academy
The School has a deep historical relationship with Lingnan University, which was founded more than 120 years ago. In 1888, friendly Americans founded Gezhi College (the predecessor of Lingnan University) in Guangzhou, and in 1926, the name of the school was changed to the private Lingnan University. In 1927, Lingnan University was adopted by the Chinese, and Dr. Chung Wing-kwong was the first Chinese president. In 1952, in the national restructuring of faculties, the relevant departments of Lingnan University were merged into Sun Yat-sen University and other institutions of higher learning.
In 1988, on the occasion of the centenary celebration of Lingnan University, the State Education Commission announced the approval of the establishment of Lingnan University College of Sun Yat-sen University.
At the beginning of its establishment, Mr. Wang Pingshan, a Lingnan alumnus and former Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, served as the first dean. In 1994, Professor Shu Yuan, doctoral supervisor of the Department of Economics of Fudan University, was transferred to our institute as the dean. In July 2007, Professor Wu Lifan of the Department of Finance of California State University, Los Angeles was appointed as the Dean of our school. In March 2010, Professor Shu Yuan was appointed as the dean. From May 2011 to November 2016, Professor Xu Xinzhong, former Vice Dean of Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, served as the Dean of our school. At present, the leaders of the college include: Executive Dean Lu Lu, Secretary of the Party Committee Huang Shan, Vice Dean Zhang Bin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Huang Tao, Assistant Dean Cai Guowei, and Assistant Dean Cao Xiaping.
Academic research
With the joint efforts of all teachers and students, the school has made remarkable progress in teaching, scientific research and economic management disciplines, and its academic reputation and social influence have been continuously improved.
In 2001, the "Innovation of Political Economy Teaching Content and System" of the School won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award of China Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the first prize of the Teaching Achievement Award of Higher Education of Guangdong Province. In 2005, the "Exploration and Practice of Teaching Internationalization Reform" of the college won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award of China Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the first prize of the Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award of Guangdong Province. Wang Xi's doctoral dissertation "Analysis of Aggregate Demand in China's Transition Economy: Micro Basis and Aggregate Operation" of Wang Xi, a doctoral student trained by the college, won the 2005 National Top 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award; Teacher Song Haiqing's doctoral dissertation was awarded first place in the Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management Doctoral Dissertation Award organized by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals in the United States, becoming the only Asian to win the award since its establishment more than 30 years ago. In 2007, Xu Xianxiang, a doctoral student trained by the school, won the honor of 100 outstanding doctoral dissertations in China for his doctoral dissertation "The Evolution of Economic Growth Distribution in China's Provinces and Autonomous Regions: 1978-1998". In 2009, Yang Zihui, a doctoral student trained by the school, won the honor of 100 outstanding doctoral dissertations in China for his doctoral dissertation "Research on the Crowding Out Effect and Crowding Effect of Policy Instruments". Fu Ke and Associate Professor Yang Zihui were selected into the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" of the Ministry of Education in 2010 and 2011 respectively. In 2015, Prof. Wang Xi and Prof. Xia Nanxin were funded by the 2015 National Social Science Foundation of China for major projects and key projects, and 10 projects were funded by the 2015 National Natural Science Foundation of China, with a total funding of 3.59 million yuan. At the beginning of 2015, Professor Shi Junqi was elected as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Psychology, and the journal Work, Aging and Retirement sponsored by the School was officially published. In 2017, Lingnan College established a total of 16 national-level projects, with an additional project funding of 5.3 million yuan. There are 11 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 2 projects have been transferred due to the introduction of talents. There are 3 projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation, of which 2 are major projects. Shen Shuguang and Professor Yang Zihui were the chief experts to bid for "Research on the Prevention-oriented Health Pattern and the Construction of a Healthy China" and "Research on China's Systemic Financial Risk Prevention System Based on Structural Data Analysis", which were funded by the 2017 National Social Science Fund Major Projects. From 2007 to the end of September 2017, a total of 2646 papers were published, including 463 in English journals, 268 in SSCI/SCI, and 2138 in Chinese journals, including 700 in Chinese Class I and Class II journals. In 2017, the School published 6 papers in world-class journals, and with the papers published by Lingnan College faculty members emerging in international authoritative journals, the academic achievements of the School have gradually entered the international academic circle, and the internationalization process of the School has been steadily promoted.
Lingnan College was accredited by AMBA and EQUIS in 2010 and AACSB in 2015, becoming the third business school in China to receive three accreditations at the same time, becoming one of the few business schools in the world to receive three accreditations at the same time, and ranking among the world's outstanding business schools. At present, the school has set up two postdoctoral mobile stations in theoretical economics and applied economics, and has the right to confer doctoral degrees in four first-level disciplines of theoretical economics, applied economics, management science and engineering, and statistics, and 17 doctoral majors. Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Management Science and Engineering, and Statistics have the right to confer master's degrees in 4 first-level disciplines, and 17 master's programs; 7 professional master's degrees in business administration (MBA) and executive business administration (EMBA), logistics engineering, etc.; It has four undergraduate majors in finance, economics, management science, and international business, as well as a Sino-US EMBA (CHEMBA).
Faculty
The school draws on the experience of famous international and domestic business schools, recruits talents, and attracts outstanding experts and scholars to engage in teaching and research work in our school. There are 97 full-time teachers, including 34 professors, 35 associate professors and 28 lecturers. There are 39 doctoral supervisors and 87 master's supervisors. Ninety-seven per cent of the faculty have a Ph.D., and 88 per cent have experience in pursuing a degree, continuing education, lecturing, collaborative research, or curriculum development at a prestigious overseas university.
While recruiting talents, the college attaches great importance to the training of teachers, and sponsors teachers to visit and study abroad and participate in academic activities. At present, nearly 50 faculty members have returned to China to teach after studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States. In addition, professors, foreign dignitaries, well-known domestic economists, and business leaders from top international universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Minnesota, the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Manchester, and the University of Lyon III in France also gave lectures and lectures.
Teaching resources
The college has excellent teaching and research conditions. Since its establishment in 1988, Lingnan alumni and people from all walks of life have donated more than HK$250 million to the construction and development of the school and the college, and have donated to the construction and development of the Lam Wu Tong and Wong Ming Yin Tong Teaching Buildings, the Wong Chuan Ching Tong Lecture Hall, the Lingnan Hall International Academic Exchange Centre, the Ng Shun Tak Library, the Lingnan MBA Teaching Building of Yip Po Ting Tong, the Lingnan Administrative Centre of Ng Tin Tak Tong, the Lingnan Professors' Residence Building, the Wing Kwong Tong VIP Building, the Lingnan MBA Centre Building, etc., to improve teaching, research, services and living conditions. Wu Shunde Library is a professional library of economic management, with a usable area of 5,000 square meters and a collection of more than 90,000 books, including about 1,036 kinds of professional reference books. About 3,000 copies of the original English books were donated to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States; It has collected more than 700 kinds of Chinese and foreign professional journals (including 58 foreign language journals), and the collection rate of professional core journals is more than 92%; 24,025 kinds of Chinese electronic journals; 24,132 foreign language electronic journals; There are 911,170 Chinese e-books, more than 312,200 foreign e-books, and more than 20 professional research databases of economic management, involving domestic and foreign macroeconomic data, capital markets, listed companies, enterprise management, industry and industry reports and data, etc., and is one of the small economic and management professional libraries with the most complete collection of economic management journals in South China and relatively comprehensive professional database acquisition.
Student development
With strong faculty, excellent teaching conditions and rich historical accumulation, the various degree programs of the college have become popular programs in South China and even the whole country, attracting a large number of outstanding candidates to apply for the examination every year. In 2003 and 2004, the college successively admitted two top students in the Guangdong Provincial College Entrance Examination. Since 2003, the average admission score of the college's undergraduate majors has been in the forefront of South China, attracting the best candidates in South China and even the whole country. In 2015, Guangdong ranked first in the province in undergraduate admission, with the highest score of 680, the lowest score of 671 and the average score of 673.8 in science, and the highest score of 650, the lowest score of 640 and the average score of 642.8 in liberal arts. In 2016, Guangdong's undergraduate admission score remained the first in the province, with the highest score of 668.9 points and an average score of 651.1 points in economics and science, and the highest score of 619 points and an average score of 609.6 points in liberal arts.
The college pays attention to liberal arts education and general education, and the first and second years of each undergraduate major are uniformly cultivated to achieve a wide caliber and a solid foundation, and the third year students can re-choose their majors and directions in the college according to their personal strengths, interests, aspirations and social needs, and study professional courses, and some courses are taught in English.
In addition, the college vigorously explores the ways of foreign exchange and provides an open educational environment, undergraduate, general graduate and MBA students can sign up for overseas exchange programs to more than 40 universities in North America, Europe, Australia, Asia and other countries and regions, participate in various international and domestic competitions and exchange activities, undergraduate students can also choose overseas study programs. In the 2014 academic year, 115 students were sent to study and exchange in North America, Europe and Australia. The college also actively develops undergraduate joint training programs (double degree programs) with eight universities in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, providing international direct training for students to further their studies.
In 1999, the School cooperated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to launch the International MBA Program, which ranked first in the evaluation of the second batch of MBA programs in China in 2001. In 2009 and 2010, the EMBA won the third and second place respectively in the most leading EMBA in the Chinese market, and the EMBA education program has trained more than 1,500 students since its inception in 2003.
