Shandong University of the Arts is located in the historical and cultural city of Jinan, surrounded by famous springs, and is the only comprehensive higher art institution in Shandong Province. After several generations of unremitting efforts, it has now developed into a comprehensive higher art institution with profound cultural heritage, complete disciplines, high level of education, superior school-running conditions, and plays an important role in art education and art talent training in Shandong Province.
Historical evolution and the spirit of mountain art
The school was founded in August 1958, formerly known as Shandong Art College. In December 1978, with the approval of the State Council, the school was rebuilt into Shandong University of the Arts, opened undergraduate majors, and was given the glorious mission of "cultivating high-level artistic talents in music, art, drama and other aspects for the province".
At the beginning of the establishment of the school, a large number of well-known art masters in China worked and lived here. Li Chaoshi and Dai Bingxin, who studied in Europe with Xu Beihong in the early years and returned to China at the same time to run art education, Li Jiemin, who studied in Europe with the people's musician Xian Xinghai, Liu Zhiping, a proud disciple of Master Hongyi, and Yu Xining, Guan Yousheng, Hei Bolong, Liu Zigu and other old gentlemen with deep roots in Chinese culture and high attainments in calligraphy and painting, have all taught here, and laid the foundation for the development of mountain art, and also laid a solid foundation for art education in Shandong. Conditions and scale of running a school
The school has two campuses in Jinan Wendong and Changqing, covering an area of 1,313 acres, including 1,200 acres in Changqing. The total area of the school's property right buildings is 351126 square meters, including 170,090 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings; The library has a collection of 687357 paper literature, teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment with a total value of 76.2333 million yuan, and complete supporting facilities to ensure and meet the needs of teaching.
The school has 13 teaching units: the School of Music, the School of Fine Arts, the School of Drama, Film and Television, the School of Music Education, the School of Design, the School of Arts Administration, the School of Dance, the School of Opera, the School of Media, the School of Vocational Education, the College of Adult Education, the School of International Art Exchange, and the Department of Public Courses. At present, there are 8,577 general undergraduate and junior secondary school students and 641 master's students.
School level and discipline construction
After continuous accumulation and development, the school has now formed a multi-level education pattern including technical secondary school, general undergraduate and junior college, graduate student, Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and adult education, involving four university disciplines: art, literature, engineering and management. At present, there are three provincial-level key disciplines of Shandong Provincial Colleges and Universities: Musicology, Fine Arts, and Drama and Opera, of which musicology is a characteristic key discipline; There are three key disciplines of culture and art science in Shandong Province: art history, culture and art management, and design art. There are 50 undergraduate majors (including professional directions). Among them, the painting major, public affairs management major, and art design major were approved by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance as the characteristic major construction site of colleges and universities, and the performance major was approved as a brand major of colleges and universities by the Shandong Provincial Department of Education. There are 11 provincial excellent courses, 3 provincial teaching teams, and more than 10 national teaching achievement awards and provincial teaching achievement awards. In 2005, the school became a pilot unit for the "Master of Arts Professional Degree" (MFA) education and a master's degree awarding unit for in-service personnel with equivalent academic ability. In 2010, it was approved by the Ministry of Education as a work unit to recommend outstanding fresh undergraduate graduates to study for master's degree without examination.
