Founded in 1928, the China Academy of Art has always stood at the forefront of the art of the times, with a sense of historical mission and responsibility for the revitalization of national art, and a rational spirit of active dialogue with world art, which has had an important impact on the innovation and expansion of contemporary Chinese visual culture and art. Today's China Academy of Art has achieved leapfrog development in the history of the school with the renewal of its campus, the inheritance of ideas, the reorganization of faculties, and the expansion of disciplines.
The Nanshan Campus completed in 2003 has achieved a modern interpretation of the Academy of Ink Arts, and the Xiangshan Campus has been put into use in 2007 to give birth to the vision of the Artist Garden, and the unique campus has become the new business card of Hangzhou, a famous historical and cultural city. In 2015, it was successfully selected as the first batch of key construction universities in Zhejiang Province. The campus covers an area of more than 1,000 acres, with a construction area of nearly 300,000 square meters, spanning Hangzhou and Shanghai, and has three campuses in Nanshan, Xiangshan and Zhangjiang.
According to the needs of discipline layout, discipline structure and professional development, the China Academy of Art proposes to build orientalism of visual arts, deepen the structural adjustment of faculties, strengthen the foundation of discipline development, and form a pattern of "five disciplines and ten colleges". Focusing on the characteristics, advantages and positioning of the development of the college, focusing on the national needs and cultural missions, the "six excellences" construction goal and the "four new breakthroughs" strategy of "new declaration, new countryside, new international and new power" were strategically proposed, the construction of the academic system was optimized, the construction content and key tasks were clarified, and the construction of the comprehensive reform pilot zone was launched. Fine arts of China Academy of Art has been listed as a national key discipline, and four disciplines, including fine arts, design, art theory, and architecture, have been listed as first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province. At present, the college has set up three post-doctoral research stations in fine arts, design and art theory. At present, there are more than 9,000 students and about 1,000 faculty members.
