Expansion in China

In 1988, the Shanghai Hilton Hotel opened, marking the beginning of Hilton's entry into the Chinese market. In the 90s of the 20th century, due to the group's development strategy mainly in the North American and European markets, Hilton's expansion pace in the Chinese market lagged significantly behind other international hotel groups. In the new century, with the increasing size of the Chinese hotel market, and the acquisition of the Hilton International in the United Kingdom by the Hilton Hotel Company in the United States, after the Hilton brand became a unified entity, the group's development strategy began to focus on the Asian market, especially the Chinese market, and Hilton accelerated its expansion in the Chinese market. On March 23, 2005, Hilton International Hotel Group revealed that its highest-end ultra-luxury hotel brand, CONRAD, which has only 17 ultra-luxury hotels in the world, will enter the Chinese mainland market, and the first hotel is expected to be located in the Xintiandi area of Shanghai. On June 7, Hilton International Hotel Group (HI) and China Real Estate Group signed an agreement in Beijing, announcing the establishment of the "Conrad" hotel in Beijing. The group's budget hotel brand, Scandic, has also signed a contract to open before the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Beijing will be the first city in the world to own all three international Hilton brands, including the luxury hotel Conrad, the upscale hotel Hilton and the budget hotel Scandika for the mid-market market.
