Since opening its first hotel in 1937, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts has maintained a transformative image in the travel industry. Our innovative programs, global destinations, and commitment to our guests have kept us at the forefront of the industry for more than 70 years. We are constantly updating, adapting and changing with the times, and the only thing that remains constant is the values we set when we started our journey many years ago.

In 1937, Sheraton founders Ernest Henderson and Robert Moore owned their first hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts. Over the next two years, they acquired three hotels in Boston and expanded their hotels to many locations from Maine to Florida.

In 1947, Sheraton America became the first hotel chain to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

In 1949, after acquiring two hotel chains in Canada, Sheraton embarked on a path of international expansion and grew rapidly around the world.

In 1958, the company introduced the "Reservation System", the industry's first automated electronic reservation system.

In 1961, the Sheraton Tel Aviv Hotel in Israel opened, marking the beginning of Sheraton Hotel operations in the Middle East.

In 1963, the Sheraton Makutu Hotel in Venezuela was the first Sheraton hotel to open in Latin America.

In 1965, Sheraton Boston opened its doors as the 100th hotel to open.

In 1970, the company was the first hotel chain to use a toll-free number (1-800-325-3535) to serve customers directly, and the number is still in use today.

In 1985, Sheraton was the first international hotel chain to begin operations in the People's Republic of China.

In 1998, Starwood ® Hotels & Resorts Worldwide acquired Sheraton

In 2002, Sheraton elevated the guest experience with the launch of the Sweet Sleep Bed ™, designed to eliminate pressure points and promote circulation.

In 2006, Sheraton partnered with Microsoft ® to launch Connect @Sheraton. With this new concept, Sheraton became the first brand in the industry to reposition the hotel lobby as a hub of connectivity, where guests can work, relax, socialize, or enjoy a snack.

In 2008, Sheraton redesigned the Hotel Gym Experience. Sheraton Fitness features a comprehensive fitness program that includes a fully equipped state-of-the-art fitness center and healthy dining options designed to keep guests feeling their best at all times.

In 2012, Sheraton Macao Grand Opening: The 3,896-room Sheraton Macao is the largest hotel under the Starwood brand and the largest hotel in the world.

In 2013, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts opened Sheraton Shantou Logan Hotel in China. Sheraton Shantou Logan Hotel is the brand's 100th hotel in the Asia-Pacific region, cementing its position as China's largest global brand.

In 2015, Sheraton had more than 435 hotels and 88 resorts in more than 70 countries around the world.
