Abbott has deep roots in China. Abbott opened its first branch in China in 1937 and has been in operation since 1888.

Abbott has been operating in China for nearly 30 years, providing a wide range of nutritional, pharmaceutical and medical products to Chinese consumers. At present, Abbott has established 10 offices, 3 factories and 2 R&D centers in Shanghai, with more than 4,000 employees.
Since 2010, Abbott has continued to invest in the Chinese market, developing, manufacturing and distributing products in China covering nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostics to ensure that our products and services fully meet the full range of needs, from disease prevention to diagnosis and from treatment to recovery. In 2014, Abbott invested US$230 million to build an advanced nutrition factory in Jiaxing, which is our largest investment project in China, demonstrating Abbott's strong intention to improve the health of all Chinese.
Abbott values local R&D capabilities in China, and we have not only established an R&D center in Shanghai, but also established the Shanghai Children's Medical Center with our partners. Through local clinical trials and operations, Abbott China's R&D capabilities have been greatly improved. When it comes to medical innovation, we work with other R&D centers around the world to address the world's medical challenges.
