In 2007, the Xi'an Museum was officially opened to the public and is the first large-scale municipal museum in Xi'an. It is located in the temple grounds of the temple and is built according to the small wild goose pagoda in the temple. The construction area of Xi'an Museum is about 16,000 square meters, and its architectural design is designed by Zhang Jinqiu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and designer of the Shaanxi History Museum. The Xi'an Museum and the ancient buildings in the Jianfu Temple are integrated and run through, forming a historical and cultural attraction integrating modern museums and ancient buildings and gardens. The Little Wild Goose Pagoda and the Recommended Blessing Temple can be regarded as one of the exhibition areas of the museum, and the museum is also a part of the small wild goose pagoda scenic spot.
In the Xi'an Museum, you can not only learn about a lot of precious local history and culture of Xi'an, but also see the style of the Little Wild Goose Pagoda. The Little Wild Goose Pagoda was built in the Tang Jinglong period and has now become a thousand-year-old cultural heritage and an important part of the Xi'an Museum. The Little Wild Goose Pagoda is not as majestic as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, with a height of 43.3 meters and 13 floors. From a distance, the body of the tower is gray and white, there is no trace of renovation, dilapidated, but the small wild goose pagoda is observed closely, each lintel is carved with the pattern of offering heaven and man and arabesque, it looks delicate and exquisite, simple and graceful.
The exhibition area of the museum is about 5,500 square meters, with about 110,000 pieces of museum collections, of which more than 100,000 pieces are all kinds of rare ancient books. The basic exhibition focuses on showing the urban development and changes of Xi'an, with three districts. The first exhibition room is called "The Ancient Capital of the Millennium", which shows the urban development process of Xi'an through a giant sand table model. Collectively known as the "Imperial Capital", the second and third exhibition rooms use bronze and pottery to reflect the glorious past of Xi'an as the ancient capital of the Thirteen Dynasties, and present visitors with a prosperous Xi'an. The thematic exhibition is mainly based on Buddhist statues, jade, calligraphy and painting. There are many bronze exhibits in the museum, the collection sequence of jade exhibits is complete, and the time span of calligraphy and painting collection is large, among which there are many famous calligraphy and paintings.
The Xi'an Museum has a rich collection, but the exhibition area is too small, and the cultural relics cannot be displayed one by one, and only more than 1,000 pieces of the 110,000 collections are fortunate to be exhibited. The cultural and creative products in the museum are diverse, distinctive and creative, which are not inferior to the Shaanxi History Museum and are deeply loved by young people. However, in terms of cultural relics collection, compared with the wide area and time span of cultural relics of the Shaanxi History Museum, the Xi'an Museum, as a municipal museum, only focuses on the city's historical monuments, which seems to be a small pattern. In terms of professional and technical personnel and the essence of the collection is not as good as the Stele Forest Museum.
