Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, formerly known as the Southwest Museum established in March 1951, was renamed Chongqing Museum in 1955 due to the revocation of the Southwest Region. Today, the China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing is not only the first batch of national first-class museums, but also a national museum jointly built by the central and local governments.
Every visitor who arrives at the China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing will find that the overall layout of the museum is symmetrical, and its axis of symmetry coincides with the Chongqing People's Auditorium not far away. The appearance of the People's Auditorium, the People's Square, and the museum is neat and unified.
The China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing has a construction area of 45,000 square meters, with a total of 5 floors, but only 4 floors above ground are exhibition halls, with a total exhibition area of more than 20,000 square meters. There is no strict theme division for each floor of the exhibition hall, and only the individual exhibition halls have a definite theme. Among them, the magnificent Three Gorges, Far Cuba and Chongqing, Chongqing City Road, and the Anti-Japanese War years are the most popular exhibition halls. The museum has a collection of more than 100,000 cultural relics and more than 50,000 materials. Among them, the mammalian figurines, the axis of "Okra Chicken Millet Picture", the bronze horse figurines, and the "Qionghua Pearl Chicken" are all fine works in the collection.
The magnificent Three Gorges tells about the natural environment and human history of the Three Gorges, which is divided into four units: "Creation of the Three Gorges", "Between Mountains and Waters", "Three Gorges Romance", and "Eternal Three Gorges". The main content of "Three Gorges of Creation" is the formation and overview of the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges, as well as the display of the climate of the Three Gorges, the flora and fauna of the Three Gorges, etc., in which the petrified wood, metal statues and even animal specimens are rich in details, and the effect is worthy of affirmation; "Between Mountains and Waters" tells the history of the inheritance of the Three Gorges people and the unique Three Gorges civilization; "The Three Gorges Romance" displays myths and legends and magnificent poems about the Three Gorges; "The Three Gorges Forever" describes in detail the deeds of the Three Gorges Water Conservancy Project, supporting the country's first full-week digital seamless ring-screen cinema, but the film requires visitors to move to the next exhibition hall to experience. It should be noted that the screening time of the "Great Three Gorges" digital ring screen movie is 10:30, 14:30, and 15:30, and the film duration is about 15 minutes.
Far Cuba and Chongqing show the ancient civilization of Chongqing with stone tools and bronze age cultural relics. Since the last section of the exhibition hall displays primitive human skeletons, although it is not scary, it is still worth the attention of visitors with children; Chongqing City Road tells the story of Chongqing's historical development in the 20th century, and visitors can feel the former style of the mountain city; The exhibition hall of the Anti-Japanese War years displays a wealth of cultural relics, and visitors can learn about the contributions and sacrifices made by Chongqing and its people in China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and the years of the capital are clearly reproduced.
The Chongqing People's Auditorium opposite the museum is one of the landmark buildings in Chongqing, and its splendid and majestic architectural style combines the characteristics of traditional Chinese architecture and Western architecture with the long-span structure, and has a good reputation at home and abroad. The interior of the Great Hall of the People is a neat and uniform rotunda, and the display content is relatively not as rich as that of the China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing. Many tourists go to the auditorium just to take pictures of the exterior of the building, and it is recommended to take pictures directly on the platform at the entrance of the Three Gorges Museum, which is better.
