Ciqikou Ancient Town was founded in the Song Dynasty, and has become an important land and water wharf by the Jialing River because of the unique landform of "one river, two streams, three mountains and four streets". After Chongqing became the accompanying capital, the passenger flow of Ciqikou Ancient Town increased greatly, and Lin Sen, then chairman of the National Government Committee of the Republic of China, couldn't help but write down the praise of "Little Chongqing" after visiting here.

Ciqikou was originally called Baiyan Field because there was once a Baiyan Temple in the town. During the Qing Dynasty, porcelain became one of the main industries of the ancient town, and the merchants in the town gradually called the porcelain mouth in order to smooth the mouth, and finally evolved into the ciqi mouth.

In those years, there was a folk song "thousands of people in the daytime, ten thousand bright lights after night" to praise the prosperity of Ciqikou, during the day, thousands of boats rowed to dock at the wharf, after night, the shore oil pot, calcium carbide lamp, gas lamp is bright and shining, it is the lingering memory in the mind of "old Chongqing". In the 60s of the last century, the commercial center of Shapingba District gradually shifted, and the water transportation also declined greatly, and the role of Ciqikou distribution center and transfer station gradually disappeared. It is also like this, Ciqikou has shifted the direction of development, focusing on folk culture tourism. Because Ciqikou itself is an ancient town, the transformation is also quite smooth. The slightly uneven stone paths, the winding buildings with unique mountain city characteristics, and the bustling crowd make people vaguely see the figure of the ancient city of Chongqing.

Although Ciqikou Ancient Town still retains the charm of the ancient city of Chongqing, it is difficult to get rid of the problem of the sameness of commercial streets. In addition, the width of the alleys in the ancient town is not high, and the experience of playing on holidays is poor. At the same time, the Baolun Temple, Wenchang Palace, Zhongjiayuan and other landscapes in the ancient town are still preserved, and interested tourists can go to have a look.
