The delicious dog located next to No. 71 Middle School on Longquan Road in Shapingba District is one of the collective memories of the nearby neighborhood. The earliest name of the store was "Little Five", which was changed to "Small Piece" as prices rose. Until the small shop could no longer sell snacks at a single price, it was forced to change its name to "Delicious Dog", which cleverly took the meaning of "glutton" in its Chongqing dialect.
Staying true to tradition is one of the characteristics of Delicious Dog, and almost every dish in the store can be eaten with a strong traditional charm. The most popular hot dishes are made by boiling side dishes such as kelp, lotus root slices, and lotus skin in the hot pot soup. They may not taste great, but they are already familiar to the taste buds of the neighborhood. In Chongqing in the eighties and nineties, there were still many snack bars on the streets that mainly promoted hot dishes, but they gradually declined with the development of the times and slowly disappeared. Instead of the common rice raw materials, the cold cake uses glutinous rice that is close to the traditional taste, and the product is softer and glutinous than ordinary cold cakes. Ice powder is made directly from the old method: mint toothpaste is used instead of lime water as the coagulant of ice powder, so that the product has a cool and smooth toothpaste taste, and it tastes quite pleasant.
The façade of the delicious dog is only a few square meters in size, almost entirely used as a kitchen, and the seats are scattered under the corner trees outside the store, blending in with the surrounding streetscape. It has carried the lives of countless residents and is still popular today. If you're lucky enough to pass by, you might as well try to tap into the traditional Chongqing flavor.
