Long before the merger of Jing'an District and Zhabei District, Zhabei District Experimental Primary School (hereinafter referred to as Zhashi) was well-known in the city as the first public primary school in Zhabei. Founded in 1993, it has three campuses in Daning, Longsheng and Mingde. Daning Campus is the main school of Zhashi, located near the Daning International Business Center, with a plastic runway, a 180-square-meter library, an electronic reading room, and special classrooms such as art room, pottery room, singing room, dance room, nature exploration room, guzheng performance room, pipa performance room and snooker training room.
In terms of teachers, as of 2017, there were 135 teachers, including 128 full-time teachers, with a ratio of 43.8% and a teacher-student ratio of 1:14. Teachers are shared among the three campuses of the school, and teachers rotate classes in proportion to each other, and the curriculum is the same. New teachers are also recruited each year by the school on an as-needed basis.
Many of the teachers have won the first prize of the Shanghai Mathematics Teaching Competition, the first prize of the Zhabei District Mathematics Skills Competition, and the Outstanding Coach of the Olympiad. According to the statistics of third-party education information agencies, the number of winners in the four major cup competitions in 2016 accounted for 16.25% of the whole school, ranking seventh among the city's public primary schools.
Every year, Zhashi will select some outstanding students to participate in the Olympiad class, which is divided into two classes, A and B, with about 40 students in each class. Among them, Class A is also divided into large A class and small A class for hierarchical and small class teaching, and the number of small A class is about 12 people. In addition to the regular thinking training every week, students in classes A and B also have special Olympiad training after class on the weekend, and the last place will be eliminated at the end of the semester.
In terms of school-running mode, Zhashi has two major characteristics. The first is a "no homework day" one day a week: on this day, students can participate in a number of school-based courses such as pottery, guzheng, chess, billiards, etc., as well as arts, sports, foreign languages and other themed field activities. Another feature is the "gold medal" exemption system: in daily teaching, the teacher awards a "bronze medal" according to the student's homework completion, unit test scores, classroom performance, etc., two "bronze medals" can be exchanged for a "silver medal", two "silver medals" are exchanged for a "gold medal", and students who have won the "gold medal" can apply not to take the final exam.
Zhashi has a good place to go to school, and its counterpart area focuses on Fenghua Junior High School (West Campus). However, for most of the students in Zhashi, Fenghua Junior High School is only a guaranteed school, and the proportion of Zhashi entering Fenghua Junior High School is less than half every year. In previous years, there were about 10 students who entered the Shangwai High School, Huayu Science Class, Shibei Science Class, and Lan Physiology Class, and the rest of the students chose Shibei Aoying, Chuangxin, Yang Bo and other junior high schools with better quality than Fenghua.
