Founded in 1991, Shanghai Cinema is located on the quiet Xinhua Road, covering an area of 14,000 square meters, is one of the largest cinemas in China, and has won the Best Design Award of the Top Ten New Scenic Spots in Shanghai in the 90s of the 20th century, and won the nomination award of Shanghai Classic Architecture for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Shanghai Film City is one of the first five-star cinemas in Shanghai, creating a precedent for multiplex cinemas in China, and is a collection of film screenings, conferences, catering, entertainment, bookstores, advertising, exhibitions, held many film premieres and meet-and-greets, and has been the main venue of the "Shanghai International Film Festival" for more than ten consecutive years, which can be described as a veteran flagship cinema in China.
There are a total of 9 movie theaters with different styles in the cinema headquarters. One of the most famous is the Oriental Giant Screen Hall (Hall 1) located on the second floor of the cinema, which can seat 1058 people, and the decoration is based on red, which is warm and brilliant, solemn and elegant. Equipped with first-class audio-visual equipment, the screen is 22 meters wide and 10.5 meters high, the sound effect is designed with reference to the international THX technical standard, with SDDS eight-channel full digital stereo, SR-D and DTS six-channel digital stereo equipment, 70 mm projectors and simultaneous interpretation equipment and other types of equipment, with advanced digital cinema projection technology, 18 top digital cinema amplifiers with a total power of 30,000W, and the hardware strength is at the leading level in the country.
Released on November 11, 2016, Ang Lee's Billy Lean's Halftime Fight is screened in Shanghai at the only screening point in Shanghai Cinema Hall 1, and only five theaters in the world (New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei) can be screened. Among them, the highest specification and the largest screen of the Oriental giant screen hall was renamed Billy Lynn Hall during the screening, with 120 frames of dual-machine projection each, and the resolution is as high as 4K, which is 4 times that of the traditional 2K, in addition to meeting the ultra-high technical requirements of 3D/4k/120 frame film projection, Hall 1 is also the only one with panoramic sound among the five theaters in the world, and its technical strength should not be underestimated.
Although the brand of Shanghai Film City is different from SFC Shanghai Film Cinema, it is also a cinema brand under Shanghai Film (Group) Co., Ltd., and the Shanghai Film Cinema card sold on the ticketing platform can often be used, which is more affordable for SFC Shanghai Film Cinema's loyal consumers and provides more cinema hall choices.
The flaw of Shanghai Film City is that it is too old and has insufficient design. The seat pitch is small, and late consumers often need to give up their seats along the way, so it is recommended that consumers who choose seats in the central area go early. The VIP hall on the fourth floor is different from the massage chairs used in other theaters, and it is placed with a small square leather sofa with a strong sense of antiquity, which is generally comfortable, and it is easy to be stiff and tired after watching a long movie, so the VIP theater with high ticket prices is not very cost-effective. The arrangement of chairs in the auditorium is less inclined and easy to block the view.
It should be noted that in order to facilitate the holding of premieres and other activities, some theaters have a stage in front of the curtain, and this distance needs to be considered when purchasing tickets and selecting seats to get the best viewing experience.
